I think Nintendo was right, in that the graphical leap between the PS4/One and the WiiU would not be as "significant" in terms of visuals as was with the PS3/360 and the Wii. I say this after watching the XboxOne reveal and looking at the EA Sports games, mainly. I think these games could definitely be done on the WiiU without any significant loss in visuals. What do you think?

The graphical difference can never be like Wii and 360 again. The biggest difference were shaders. Look at Halo Anniversary Edition its basically Halo1 with 360 shaders on top of it and it looks great. And WiiU can basically render everything PS4 and Xone can. Just the number of polygons, resolution etc will vary.
And since this generation went on for so long we have like 99% of real world effects in our games because devs had to come up with new stuff to make their games look better. Sure they will use better lighting and shadowing etc. but WiiU can handle those to some extend and even if not then WiiU can still use PS360 style effects.
I mean even the 3DS will not have the same difference compared to PS4 as Wii had to PS3 since it can actually handle most of the stuff PS360 can (shader, effects-wise).
Thats also why the difference between PSP (without those shaders etc) compared to 3DS seems actually bigger than 3DS to Vita (which is alot more powerful than 3DS)
All comes down to the developers tho. Most cant be bothered to bring good visuals to the 3DS and Revelations will not be the standard.
Let's just hope third party will at least try to make good WiiU games.
P.S. You know the Call of Duty Ghosts trailer? I saw this trailer before I saw the Xbox reveal and I thought it was current gen.

Wii is aprox. 15x-20x less powerful than the 360 and PS3 Wii U is aprox. 5.5x-6x less powerful than the Xbox One and PS4 This doesn't mean the Wii U will get PS4 and Xbox One games, but it will be A LOT easier for devs to port their games. On Wii, devs had to make games from the ground up, this won't be the case for the Wii U. |
No. That is not true at all. Thats just ram...but when you actually add the graphics cards that nearly doubles the distance between the two. The Ram is about 7x more powerful, but thats only the ram. You need to include the graphics card, cpu and more into the equation.

Xbox One is not a only gaming machine. Meantime, Sony pushes further focus on core gaming experience, the PS4 conference is only about game and PS 4 powerhorse. Let's wait and see who will win next-gen war. BS: I like the Xbox One machine reveal in MS conference, and Sony's focus on core gaming in its conference. |
Yeah, but MS failed to mention the always online portion of the Xbox One locks your Xbox Live account when you buy used games or let your friend not play it. Everyone is just waiting to see if Sony would go as low as Microsoft has now in the gamer community so they can tell them to go screw themselves as well. I personally don't believe it because Sony said they weren't really thinking about always online. The Xbox One needs to be online at least once a day to authenticate. Its kind of like the paid online thing, Sony and Nintendo werent thinking about it, but Microsoft was.

WTF? Dude...Shadows fall looks better than the KZ2 and KZ3 cinematics in action. Seriously look at them back to back.

The 7th-8th gen leap is easily the smallest one I've witnessed since I started gaming in the SNES gen. In fact, every leap since the 4th to 5th gen has been smaller than the last.
"More reflections, better lighting and sharper textures... thats all!"
:D
"that was my song, it just had another melody, rhythm and lyrics"
Graphics are based on lighting because that is what matters to the human eye. I don't really get how "More reflections, better lighting and sharper textures" don't equal a graphical leap. And it's all the same new-console-talk all over again. As if there was any console that had killer graphics in its first games.

This is based on what superchunk said on this thread.
I'm not saying the Wii U will get all multiplat games (it won't). The point is that porting from the PS4 and XO will be a lot easier than it was for the Wii, making the chances of the console having multiplats a lot more common than the original Wii. This is where scalable engines do their job, the problem is that devs will need to optimize the engine for the Wii U, which some aren't doing.
Nintendo and PC gamer

It is so funny to see people forget every gen how bad the first games looked on their current system, and how great the last games on their last console looked.
The footage shown so far is not even the biggest bombshells MS and Sony have, and already this is a much more pleasing transition than the last. We are actually seeing a graphical improvement this gen which is something we have not seen in reveal games since PS1 to PS2.
Other things to take into account are these games are still 6 months out. In Sony's case 8 months, and a switch from 4GB to 8GB. Devs are not working with final kits. We are not seeing fake pre-baked trailers like last gen.
Not to be all S-E like, but, Please trust the people that make the games. This is the first time they have ever got the hardware they asked for, and they are exited. They know what they are doing, and not every one of them is saying it to hype sales. Gen 8 hardware is truly a massive leap we have not seen before, and it should be, it only took 8 years to arrive.

I will wait a year or two before assessing what game will look like. That is when the benchmark titles will start to come out.
