Never. If Nintendo isn't able to handle the Wii U's OS (currently) I don't want them trying anything too out there. This would also rival their handheld systems, AKA their money-makers.

What is wrong with Wii U OS? Just wondering.

I don't think miiverse would be the selling point here. If you watched the video, you saw that there was a pad casing that you attached to the phone, and then you could play Wii U games. And all in all if Nintendo made their own phone they would probably also make exclusive games for the phone too. |
the concept OS was basic android/iphone layout, nothing novel. all the miiverse features already exist on iphone/android via nintendo's offical smartphone apps. wiiU already does remote play when you are home. remote play to a phone won't happen over 3G so you'd need at least a wifi connection making the feature extreemly limited when you are away from home. plus you'd have to carry around a gigantic (as for as mobility goes) peripheral.
no other features were shown. so what are you excited for? the idea that nintendo might make games? ..they are already doing that.

Did you not see how it was handled in it's first few months? Nintendo fumbled out of the gate with it. Luckily, now, it's getting better.

Based on the video, the mock up has 4G. And I'm excited for a combined nintendo handheld/phone. Also, there are no official smartphone miiverse app.
And I'm also 99% Nintendo biased, so I would love a phone by them.

Guess i missed it as i just got the console this week. It works quite well for such a new OS. Still not sure what was wrong in the first few months. Took Apple and Google quite a long time to get where they are now. XBOX 360 dashboard also looks nothing like it launched with. We are still in the launch window phase and it works quite smoothly. Still who knows maybe i'll find the problems after i am out of the new hardware exitement phase.
Again i think they can do this if they think it through. They can sell the phones subsidized in the west and there is lot of potential for profit. Not many people would be buying $700 iphones if they had to shell that money upfront.

Sony tried. I didn't like the result though, and I think few did. |
The only thing I know of was from Sony Ericsson, and Sony basterdized that product as they did not want to give Ericsson any in to SNE. They initally were going to put PSOne classics on that phone, but they would not be supported through PSN. Then PSN was supposed to make its way to the phone, and that ended up turning into PSM, and then that took over a year to arrive.
So far no one has went in with full support behind a Gaming Smartphone. No major franchise titles exclusive, no standardized hardware for 3rd parties, nothing in the form of a handheld smartphone crossover.
If Nintendo brought this to the market with their own OS, had the basic apps (Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, ect.) and made exclusive Pokemon, and Mario games for it, they would sell 30M units a year. There are plenty of people out there begging for this product, but only if it is a true effort from Nintendo, SCE, or MS Xbox division.
Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. This is the one I was talking about (and also probably the one you talked about). As wikipedia put it, "The Xperia Play,(stylized Xperia PLAY and codenamed Zeus) is a handheld game console smartphone produced bySony Ericsson." (When I said Sony earlier I should have said Sony Ericsson, but I rarely use that name now). As I said, it never really became that playstation phone everyone wanted, sadly.
I have imagined what a Nintendo phone would look like myself to be honest. I would have used the same design as the Xperia play, but in between the buttons I would have had a second screen. And the buttons would be the same as on 3ds. I'm not sure if it's possible to make such a phone so it's still a good, powerful one without being too expensive though.
And I completely agree with the bolded part.
aww.. that's what I get for not reading up on it. Thanks for the let down. =P
I can see this concept in a family friendly, 7 in. tablet form, called something like "Wii U-Reader". It would be interesting to see how they would make this function "remote" wise as a gamepad, since it would have its own specs, it wouldn't tax the U console. Give it a modest 720p resolution, 30-50ft better wifi distance, and off tv play would be perfect.
