I'm pretty sure that will happen. Consoles nowadays cant be hacked anymore unless you cut yourselft from the internet. It means no multiplayer (assuming firmware updates are mandatory) and no digital shops. Its hardly worth it, especially more with digital only titles becoming viable.

"A modchip doesn't magically make the console able to run custom code (e.g. a GC or PS2 emulator), it just tricks the existing system software into running the code it can already load from a different place (i.e. it can ONLY run "legit", signed games, and it will ONLY run them if the system menu would have loaded them anyway i.e. they have to be from the correct region). " No they can't do "everything they wants", IF this is legit they still only can play backups. Bad enough as it is, but still with Region Lock and no true Homebrew. Also, the Xbox360 also was "hacked" pretty fast and piracy didn't phase it very much. The fact that you'll have to pay (likely relatively much) money for it will turn many people off. |
LOL, so in difference to the Wii Nintendo was able to secure the WiiU enough, that only pirated games can be played, but successfully avoided homebrew. Well done.

I hope you are right, the last thing the Wii U needs right now is rampant piracy eating into the software sales...

Wii was hacked to shit yet they dominate with their 1st party sales. According to you that would make Microsoft and Sony 1st party sales look even worse considering the Wii was the most simple to hack. |
DS was also very easy to hack, but it sold a lot of games.
| Soundwave said: Normally I'd say this is a bad thing but ... good. Nintendo deserves it. They were going to take forever to slow trickle out those Virtual Console releases, and the OS is such a mess that Homebrew will be a welcome addition. There's so much that could be done with the controller that Nintendo probably will never do (like make it compatible with A/V receivers). |
Yeah, Nintendo really deserved to be hacked and pirated. Every company deserves such a thing!

The original Wii was also hacked at around the same time, although the public version wasn't released until a year later iirc. The DS was also hacked pretty quickly. The 360 was also "hacked" like a year after launch, the problem with that one is that you will most likely get ban from Live. I know a lot of people who have a "hacked" 360 but were banned from Live xD Really the only system that was saved was the PS3 thanks to the cell architecture, which thanks to that it might never be possible to fully hack or emulate the system. |
Actually this is false. the ps3 hack its more complicate and needs at least 1 original game. the hack tricks de ps3 thinking its reading the original cd when actually you have a hard drive plugged in with all the ROMs

people don't buy the wii u because there is no software -no software=no software for costumers= no software for pirates.
what i don't understand.the wii u has far more power than the 3ds but was hacked in a shorter period.I always thought:the more powerful a system, the harder to hack.Seems I was wrong. |
The power has nothing to do with the ability to hack the system. You need some entry point, mostly bugs (like Twilight hack), but also different attacks are possible to jailbreak the system.
| Ljink96 said: Soon, there will be a way to pirate Wii U software and that's not going to sit well with the poor Wii U sales. |
Hacking doesn't have to do with the ability to pirate games. I'm pretty sure you will find ISOs of the released WiiU-games already if you search, it should be no problem to copy them. You also don't need a hacked WiiU, an emulator would also suffice to play the pirated games.

The video files is possible, but playing blue ray discs will be impossible. |
The optical drive is a Blu-Ray drive in everything but the name, same as the DVD-R drive in the Wii. If it looks like a Blu-Ray, walks like a Blu-Ray and quacks like a Blu-Ray, it's a Blu-Ray. A homebrew media player with the right codecs should be able to play Blu-Ray films.
