The video files is possible, but playing blue ray discs will be impossible. 

The optical drive is a Blu-Ray drive in everything but the name, same as the DVD-R drive in the Wii. If it looks like a Blu-Ray, walks like a Blu-Ray and quacks like a Blu-Ray, it's a Blu-Ray. A homebrew media player with the right codecs should be able to play Blu-Ray films.
