Is that supposed to be impressive or somehow make up for the fact they're missing out on a much bigger event?

Bigger for who? You are overestimating the size of Nintendo's E3 audience.

I don't think you understand that every publication will have a write up and summary of the events of E3. Their press conference will get more views and press coverage than any Nintendo Direct. I'm interested in what Nintendo is bringing, but I haven't seen any of the Nintendo Directs (nor would I even know where to watch them). I've watched their E3 press conference for the past 6 years, so they lost an interested person who is outside of the core Nintendo fan audience.

So you can find links to E3 presentations but you don't know how to get links to NDs?

They're plastered on front page threads of gaming forums similar to E3 streams.

I guess I'm just not on at the right times. I remember the first where they announced some Wii U stuff (X and SMTxFE). I never saw the conference.

I can't wait for the E3 Nintendo Direct, I honestly don't see a big difference between a stream of the ND and a stream of a presentation - the ND will cut the useless crap, though.

The difference is the E3 press conference will get picked up by the actual PRESS, not just people who already own Nintendo consoles and follow the gaming industry.  This is one of the few times a year where gaming companies have a direct line to the world wide press to present and promote their upcoming products.

Do you think Apple would be as successful a company as it is if all they did was put out "podcasts" to people who already own their products?

Several logical missteps here. 1) assumption that Nintendo direct only goes out to Nintendo owners

2) (the bigger one) assuming that *announcements* of games are the only time that game gets any attention. They can make the announcements, and then feed the information to the media at a later time (the closed events), and still get much the same exposure.

I'll throw in a 3rd.

3). Nintendo has said they are hosting a press only event at E3. Why are people assuming this does not include....press? Mainstream or otherwise?

Old school flair....thats just the problem. Its always nostalgia and never moving forward, never pushing what new characters can be brought to the table. Thats why I left Nintendo for greener pastures. I like old school, but it cant be all you are or you will eventually become so stale the whole world will eventually notice.

You missunderstand. I am talking about oldschool-flair as in   EVERYTHING WAS BETTER BACK THEN. When I play Xenoblade I feel like when I was a child etc. Xenoblade is far from having old school gameplay.  On the other hand  Call of Duty is exactly the same as Medal of Honor was 15 years ago.  Racing games dont change  they are either simulations or  arcade or copy Mario Kart which is by far the most fun (fun is what games are about) racing series that exists.

Mario evolved a lot. Dont judge Mario by comparing SMB with NSMB that makes no sense since NSMB is somewhat supposed to be like the old games. Look at Mario 3D.  Mario 64 is the reason so many other games worked.  Mario sunshine was not an evolution but Galaxy again changed the rules.

There  is almost no evolution in any game  so saying you left Nintendo because their games dont change makes no sense. Most people dont try to notice thats the problem.

How does e.g Sony change the rules or bring new stuff to the table? I mean seriously  Uncharted is Tomb Raider, God of War is ancient Devil May Cry without guns but with swords. Sony owes alot to third party. Or desperately buys companies that made 1 average game so they secure some exclusive IPs.

Alot of people say Mario Kart or Mario Sluggers  is the same as Super Mario in terms of IP. That makes no sense. God of War is more like Devil May Cry than Mario Kart is like Mario Galaxy.  Just because the game has the same main character doesnt make it the same IP. Sure Nintendo should have used NINTENDO KART instead of MARIO KART and include Link Samus etc (maybe we get a Super Smash Kart one day) but its still not a Mario game in the original sense.

Most of the games that came out in the last 10 years give me a I COULD PLAY SOMETHING BETTER feeling. Because those games lack something.
Whereas  Zelda, Xenoblade or even the new Fire Emblem Awakening which I got 2 days ago make me want to keep playing.
Sure Nintendo also lost some of its charm and alot of their new IP (with low budgets) feel like average games but its still there. Charm that games like Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma on SNES had (that retro-flair I was talking about) and games like FF 13, Call of Duty, Jak n Daxter etc have not.

And Nintendo actually has/had a ton of new IP. Or their IP changed for the better as in FE Awakening.   Nintendo now owns Project Zero. They made Day of Crisis (sure not a great game but its as average as most games today are). They have stuff like Magical Starsign. Advance Wars/Battalion Wars. They had Geist  and Eternal Darkness.  Golden Sun, Xenoblade kicks most other RPGs ass. Nintendo made pushmo. There is like 40 or so new IP's since 2000.  People just dont know about them or ignore them. Mario&Luigi, Another Code etc....

Seriously the world is realistic, brown, and grey enough. And thank god Nintendo uses some color.  Other games try to look super realistic but they fail in doing so and in a few years they will look like shit. And whats left then?

I cannot really explain what feeling I get when playing Nintendo games or some japanese JRPGs. I dont know how to exlain it. I just know that alot of todays games give me a "meh when can I finally save because I need a break from this" feeling.

Nintendo is one of the worst when it comes to evolving with their franchises. NSMB has released the exact same game 4 times, Zelda, Mario Kart, and Pokemon haven't evolved in the slightest since their inception. Oh and comparing Uncharted to Tomb Raider and God of War to DMC? You clearly have not played those games or else you wouldn't making such ridiculous statements. Your whole logic is ridiculous, old school games are better simply because they're old? That's why Nintendo games aren't evolving, because their fanboys get upset if even the slightest change is made to a 20 year old franchise. Maybe you're right. In fact let's go back even more, screw home console, let's just have arcade machines that charge us 50$ in quarters when we want to finish one game. The older the better right?

It will get exposure to gaming sites like IGN and GI but E3 is where Nintendo could have shown off the WiiU to a massive audience comprised of more than just gamers. I still think this is a massive mistake.

Wait. How does dividing their conference into several pieces, each targeting a specific audience, add up to "hiding"? (Hint: It doesn't.)

When you think about the mass market, it does add up. Nintendo direct is only looked at by gamers. Nintendo is taking a more private route this year and an open and welcoming route last gen. One million views isnt enough to justify endorsing Nintendo Directs over E3.

If Nintendo is dumb enough to only invite the traditional gaming media to their closed event, and not more diverse sources, sure. Will they be? (especially given that this is Nintendo, who really doesn't have the best relationship with the gaming media as its commonly defined)
