I have read a couple of articles like this, and I have always agreed with them.

Whether or not Nintendo gets 3rd party support will have nothing to do with it's lack of power, and will have everything to do with whether the developers want to make the game(I'm looking at you EA). It will be at least 3-4 years till we start seeing a difference gameplay-wise.

Power isn't the only reaso Wii U isn't getting support but it is a major reason.

Why do people keep saying EA hates Nintendo? They put Need For Speed on Wii U and they put Mass Effect on there even though it had no chance in hell of selling well. They even put FIFA 13 on there if I remember correctly.

Where is this EA hate again?

Read the article....power won't be as big of a factor for a while. The main reason the Wii U doesn't have support right now is timing. Almost no games have been announced for next-gen consoles apart from EA games, and other games that are out/coming out were already funded and close to the polish only phase before the devs were given dev kits for the Wii U. Most developers didn't even have final tech until the system launched.

They released FIFA 12.5, not FIFA 13, same goes for Madden. They also announced the Mass Effect Trilogy to be coming out a month before ME3 on Wii U (cannablizing sales), same price as the Wii U version AND it would have DLC support....while the Wii U version doesn't have it and won't get it. Criterion may have released NFS, but it will only get DLC (that was released prior to the game) if it "sells enough units", which translates to EA wanting a massive attachment rate for a 4 month old port available on other systems for less money. Criterion stated that they would bring every future NFS game to the Wii U simultaneously.....and then announced just the other day that they aren't even going to be making racing games for a while. They are not bringing Battlefield 4, NHL 14, probably not FIFA 14 or Madden either.

EA said at last year's E3 (and the year before) that they would be supporting Wii U and that it was "the first next-generation console on the market" and less than a year later, say that it is not next-gen and they are focusing their efforts elsewhere. They did a complete 180 for seemingly no reason, which lends credence to the rumor that they wanted Origin to be the online network for the Wii U but Nintendo said No.

Excellent article RicardJulianti, very clear and well written. Puts some of these so-called core gamers to shame.

Oh noes, it doesn't have this or that building in the background! Getalife.

"Nintendo already has more developers on board than developers that are not supporting the Wii U.  Crytek, Capcom, Ubisoft, TT Games, WB, Square Enix, Criterion, Atlus, Namco Bandai, Sega, Platinum and Indie devs popping up left and right; versus EA (minus Criterion), Deep Silver, Epic (UE3 support only), and CD Projekt RED."

That doesn't make much sense at all (ignoring for now that he mixes publishers with developers).
So Criterion (one of EA's studios) counts pro Nintendo, EA (everything but Criterion) counts against it and it looks like they even out according to that guy.

At the same time he lists all Capcom studios under pro Nintendo even though they only ported two games (MH3U & RE Revelations) on it that were already in some form on another platform. Only new thing they get is DuckTales Remastered.
No Remember Me, Lost Planet 3, DmC, Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen, Darkstalkers Resurrection & Arcade Cabinet.  Exceptional support right there.

The whole "third party company supports this or that console logic" is flawed. It doesn't matter how many companies said they will support the console, it matters how many games the console receives.

As soon as Nintendo starts releasing games, sales will pick up. Yeah, they have dropped the ball on Pikmin and W101, but I fully expect them to come out before E3.

I wonder... Bit tin foil here, but might the delayed games be getting held back for some late-year "relaunch"?

The Wii U stands to have just as big of a lead numbers-wise as the 360 did going into next gen, if not larger. Third parties won't leave that kind of money sitting on the table.

Iwata also said that they want to share more information on "the efforts of our third party publishers"....publishers being the key word. That means not games from Platinum, or any of the collaborations they have announced or will announce. As the OP linked later.....two games were announced as being worked on for the Wii U today. Expect more to come.

Mostly I wrote it to show that the Wii U will be more than capable of running any game released by third parties for several years. Most third parties won't ignore the larger install base and will just have to increase/have load times, drop the resolution, remove particles and AI routines and so forth. The ports will be toned down, but they won't look bad by any means.

 very well written article. Congratz.

I do also expect more third party games to adopt the wiiU in the future, but I wouldnt hold my breath for that thought. The game industry sometimes seems like is being handled by fanboys...

I love Nintendo like no other, however...why would a "video game company" want to go through the work and time and expense of putting the "weapon select menu" or "map screen" on a tablet controller for the least owned system instead of just going ahead with porting it from one of the two major systems to the other and only remapping some buttons?

Now it is the least owned system. When the PS4 and 720 launches, it will be the most owned system.

I just saw a link on MyNintendonews.com. Pretty interesting read and finally something different then the average "Nintendo will die" article.

http://playeressence.com/the-wii-u-might-be-getting-more-3rd-party-support-than-you-think/

What do you think? I hope they will rock E3 with First Party Killers to show everyone what this system was meant for.

Looks like the heart of the argument is: These new fangle PS4 stats, with the amount of RAM and whatnot is overkill.  We really don't need it. Developers know we don't need it.  Engines are scalable to a HUGE degree, so relax, the WII U will be getting everything that matters from third party.  In short, it is a hope for the best article that doesn't pay attention to what developers are actually saying.  it also presumes games we see now are very similar to what developers have been envisioning for awhile now.

And if engines will scale THAT much, why even bother just stopping with the Wii U and also come out with titles on the PS3 and 360.  Or is it somehow the Wii U can get PS4 and next Microsoft console content, while the PS3 and 360 CAN'T get WIi U content, because the Wii U is THAT powerful.  And remember, the 360 and PS3 are cheaper than the Wii U.  Or is it that the second screen is THAT critical to success of future consoles, the way motion control is?

Its business decision weather or not a game comes out on a certain platform, and yes the power or lack their of in a machine plays in to this, it just so funny how people in this thread are playing it off as a none issue.

People need to keep in mind that games are a business, both the PS4 and 720 are essentially PC's, the power in these machines and the fact their comprised of PC parts means less time and money spent porting games and making them work, this factor translates into an easy business decision to port to PS4/720 as the risk of failed return on investment is low...the WiiU however doesn't have the same luxury because more money and time will be spent trying to get the game working on lower specced machine....so the business decision is "will the port to this machine justify the cost/time of porting it?" and like the Wii in it's day, the business answer will most likely be no.

Don't get me wrong the WiiU will continue to get most of the games as the PS3 and 360 as long as these two keep selling as they do because it makes business sense, luckly the WiiU not only has the same performance level if not a lil more, but the tech inside it means code is allot easier to port from the PS3/360 as there similar. So less money/time is spent making the port, lowering the risk on investment and making business sense to invest, however, once the PS4 and 720 kick into their 1st or 2nd year, the WiiU will make less and less business sense as it will cost more money and time to get the game running to the point where making money becomes questionable and thus most business decisions will end up skipping the WiiU in favor of a PC/PS4/720 platforms.

In effect as much as the people here will not like to admit or accept it, we will have a Wii situation all over again...the only condition I see things changing in Nintendos favor is if Nintendo uses that 10 Billion cash reserves, and goes heavy on funding and publishing 3rd party games, like Microsoft did with gears and Alan wake. The developer will be 3rd party but the games would be funded and owned by Nintendo, this will not only encourage 3rd party's to give Nintendo a chance but it will go ways to create a healthier relation, also it has an added bonus of adding a new franchise to Nintendos stable of franchises, something that Nintendo sorely needs as they need to broaden their portfolio in an attempt to try regain the core audience they alienated during the Wii hay days.

Thats my 2 cents, feel free to interpret this as you feel fit.

I don't think there is a single game coming out for the wiiU that is by EA.  Crysis 3 was running on the wiiU, but EA said no, BF4 is not coming out for the wiiU, their are plenty of others, but if you really don't think EA is hating on Nintendo, then I encourage you to google it.  It's worth a google.
