Right. The third parties are just waiting. Waiting for one of their buddies to dip their toes in the bubbling water that is Nintendo. Which might never happen...

Riccitiello may be gone, but he is not the reason why EA has blacklisted the Wii U. I don't see EA coming back.

That's not really a straight answer, can't you give an estimate?

I really wanted NHL 2014 for Wii U for off-screen play but I guess not :P
Sounds like its 360/PS3 only.
Power was never the reason for the success of a console or having ports or not (ok, Wii might be the exception in some cases).
Devs will put their games on a console if they think - and see - that their type of games will sell there. So, the more importante aspect of a console`s success it`s the userbase.
If people on Wii U buy 3rd party games than they will keep coming. Doesn`t matter if a few fail inbetween. A lot of 3rd party games failed to make a dent on PS3 or Xbox 360 and that didn`t keep games from going to those consoles.
Actually, a funny thing could happen this year or the next.
If it`s true that a lot of Wii owners (Nintendo fans) bought a PS3 or Xbox 360, it is also true that many were exposed to games that they wouldn`t try otherwise or ever tried before because both N64 and GC did get a good number of 3rd party games, even if not the best of the best.
What i mean is, seeing as so many Nintendo fans are exposed to PS3 and Xbox 360 genres and games, if Wii U can provide those experiences, coupled with great Nintendo 1st party games, Wii U might end it`s life with enough of a userbase to bring back the core gamers once again for next generation.

Of course I'm optimistic.....I wrote the article
As soon as Nintendo starts releasing games, sales will pick up. Yeah, they have dropped the ball on Pikmin and W101, but I fully expect them to come out before E3. The Wii U stands to have just as big of a lead numbers-wise as the 360 did going into next gen, if not larger. Third parties won't leave that kind of money sitting on the table.
Iwata also said that they want to share more information on "the efforts of our third party publishers"....publishers being the key word. That means not games from Platinum, or any of the collaborations they have announced or will announce. As the OP linked later.....two games were announced as being worked on for the Wii U today. Expect more to come.
Mostly I wrote it to show that the Wii U will be more than capable of running any game released by third parties for several years. Most third parties won't ignore the larger install base and will just have to increase/have load times, drop the resolution, remove particles and AI routines and so forth. The ports will be toned down, but they won't look bad by any means.
I love Nintendo like no other, however...why would a "video game company" want to go through the work and time and expense of putting the "weapon select menu" or "map screen" on a tablet controller for the least owned system instead of just going ahead with porting it from one of the two major systems to the other and only remapping some buttons?

The is just what I've been trying to say, very will written and very clear for those who "don't understand"... With the economy being difficult for everyone and the rise of the costs of development, I'm pretty sure not many companies would want to skip the WiiU...

You pretty much answered your own question there. They don't have to make the gamepad this specific feature thing and could mirror the game on the pad and maybe include some touch screen stuff. It really doesn't take that much effort, they just don't want to feel lazy. The UI/HUD code is already a separate thing from the environment code, so placing that on a separately rendered screen is fairly simple.
The article mostly is referring to next gen....where Wii U is the leader at the moment. They stand to have a pretty decent lead by the time the other 2 consoles come out and might even have more systems sold than both combined for a while after launch.
| JakDaSnack said: I have read a couple of articles like this, and I have always agreed with them. Whether or not Nintendo gets 3rd party support will have nothing to do with it's lack of power, and will have everything to do with whether the developers want to make the game(I'm looking at you EA). It will be at least 3-4 years till we start seeing a difference gameplay-wise. |
Power isn't the only reaso Wii U isn't getting support but it is a major reason.
Why do people keep saying EA hates Nintendo? They put Need For Speed on Wii U and they put Mass Effect on there even though it had no chance in hell of selling well. They even put FIFA 13 on there if I remember correctly.
Where is this EA hate again?
