I couldn't disagree more.   Even if Chris Rock just called someone a cracker in anger.... nobody would care.   Not because of double standards, but because there just isn't a sufficent history there to bug people.  Being called a cracker isn't essentially being equated to property.

You can't get rid of something like sexism or racistm without getting rid of sexist and racist actions and words.   Which means your going to get angry and specific things with racist and sexist commments.  Therefore clearly you are going to get more upset at things which have more context to them, and completely blow off stuff that doesn't make sense or has little context.

I'm going to step off the topic of the thread (sexism) to respond to this.

Thank you, Kasz. You should be proud of yourself. Your ignorance and double standards with regards to racism is something so much of our society seems to hold, and it is the reason I grew up as a child and was ridiculed, looked down upon, and made fun of for my skin color. In a society that praises dark, tanned skin, I was a "ginger." A completely "pale skinned" boy that certain people loved to make fun of. I was so distraught over my skin and my hair that I absolutely hated going to the beach because I knew I stood out, and I hated going to school every day because certain people would make fun of me for my hair, for my skin. And no one would stand up for me, because I was white and no one saw that I could be hurt by racial comments as well.

But it's okay, right? I'm white! I have nothing to complain about. History's on my side! LOL, how fucking ridiculous is that. I don't give a fucking shit about history. I give a shit about how people treat ME, NOW, in the present. And I've heard way too many people laugh at me and call me "ginger." I've heard way too many people demeaningly point out my white skin. And you know what? No one fucking stands up for me. No one gets those kids in trouble. You know why? Because it seems most people are like you. Most people hold dobule standards with racism and believe that it's only bad against blacks.

Well Kasz, fuck you. Fuck you and your double standards to hell. People like you made my childhood a regretful experience. Go ahead and ban me, I don't even give a shit right now.

You felt bad?  That sucks.  Still you hadn't ever been referred to or had reason to feel like property.

So yeah.  Shitty, sure?  Still not anywhere near as shitty as being made fun of for being black... or for being a woman.

Though yeah... support people beign a huger dick to those groups because random white people were a dick to you... because you were less tan then other white guys.

Nice job taking a shitty situation and deciding to be bitter and shittier to a bunch of other people.

Also ignoring the fact that there isn't one perfect good look myth for men and women have much more varied looks and views on what's attractive.  So the social pressures on men aren't anywhere near as strong as they are for women to confirm to one ideal body type.

In short.  It sucked for you... but it still wasn't nearly as bad as it was for other people.

The meaning of sexism has been literally blown out of the water and stretched to ridiculous lengths. I advocate and have full respect for women fighting for equal paid, equal opportunities in work places etc. However, it gets ludicrous when it crosses over to sexual issues between a man and a woman. Of course, when sex is involved there is bond to be a gender differentiation. A guy copulates with his partner, a women. Naturally, he likes to be the dominant one, and "coincidentally" his partner likes to be submissive and wants him to take the lead.

Then comes the feminist extremist, comes running into the room screaming sexism and that men and women should be equal in bed, gender should play no role, and by her definition, a guy should be **** in the *** by his partner all for the sake of equality.

Sexism is no longer about gender equality anymore, its all about elimination of gender altogether now.

How did you come from the issue in the OP to a caricature of a crazy feminist virago wanting to sodomize all men? You're really punching at ghosts here.

Feminists are for equality of opportunities and rights and the respect of gender peculiarities.

Feminists are not against S&M, submissive/dominant roleplay in the bedroom or in padded dungeons, rough sex or "traditional" masculine and feminine roles. They are against fetishising such dynamics between consenting adults so that someone might think that that's how it _must_ work.

They are not against a woman freely, happily and willingly living as a stay-in mom to raise a family per se. They are against a society that pushes women to take that role, restricting their freedom.

They are not against men discretely appreciating a beautiful coworker, nor against their personal fantasizing. They are against enough oogling to put her at a discomfort, in a working environment where she has to put up or be ostracized.

They are not against a woman liking to be submissive during sex. They are against their male partners assuming she should like it and against the overexposure to pornography that promotes that misconception.

Nobody likes to be flattened, it's as simple as that.

Wtf are you talking about? You are talking as if slavery still exists... I never owned slaves... I'm Russian. Why ta he'll should I feel bad? I was not a part of that atrocity. Why is it that people must feel bad about the past? Same goes for the woman argument. He is talking about what happened to him and you are talking about ansestors. Your argument is ridiculous....

Again, my point was that it is not sexism, and I get confused when people call this sort of stuff as sexism, because it isn't. I couldn't care less if those people were held accountable or if IGDA should or shouldn't apologize.

... yes it is. That's a clear textbook case of sexism.

The textbook is pretty complicated then. Not everyone in this world is required to make room for every person on this planet, so no, it is not sexism.

Not only that, you have assumed that all women who were present in the GDC were present because they wanted to go for some contacts. That was not even the point of GDC.

Your assumption, coupled with your exaggeration of the effect of these dancers on women, is the reason why you think it is sexism. The woman who left wasn't even there at the party. What does that show? It shows that she cared more about making a point then the fact she actually got offended by it. She WASN'T even there at the party, she hasn't even seen it.

And the funniest part? Apparently this was triggered by a student saying something about this incident. Not some people getting offended by it after attending the party.

its a group of fat old bitches that hate hot women and the guys attracted to them. basically, feminazies. hey if a woman is hot as hell then it should be appreciated.

that should stir the puddin. >:D

Why should people feel bad about what happened to other peoples races and sexes.  It's called having empathy for people who aren't yourself.

That you know that black people went through slavery for hundreds of years should mean you have enough common decency to be a little more sensitive around them when possibly saying something racist.  Since this is something that has effected their entire lives since they've been thought as non-human and to some degree this myth is still perpetuated in todays society.

That you know women went through well... all known existence should make you a bit more sensitive with them in regards to things that could be sexist... because... well the exact same reason for racism.

I feel bad for wfz, but the truth is, other people have had it worse, and he's targeting those people to kick, because he's bitter about his own childhood... despite the fact that the people who bugged him were doing so because he wasn't a tan white guy.

(Which again, isn't even the sole ideal of male good looks.  You look at a Top 50 sexisest men, and it's a lot more diverse then top 50 sexiest women.)

Damn.. wow. You make assumptions all over the place to lift yourself up and I find that pathetic. Just because you think my treatment wasn't quite as bad, that means it was perfectly OKAY for people to treat me that way? "Well, you got your arm cut off, but he got both of his arms cut off. Therefore, you're fine and stop complaining." Hahaha wow!

1) You act as if we treat women and black people as if they're property. I don't see that happening anywhere in our modern society.

2) My being made fun of and ridiculued for my skin and hair color wasn't nearly as bad as it is for black people and women in modern society? As if you know what I went through. You pretend you understand when you have no fucking idea what it's like to be harrassed like that. I have never seen women ridiculued, nor even black people ridiculued, so openly and so acceptably as I was as a child. You have no basis to say that my life experience has been easier than that of your average female or black person. Meanwhile, I have my life as experience.

3) It wasn't just white guys making fun of me. It was white, latino, black, etc. Stop acting like you understand the situation when you're clearly oblivious to it.

4) Me, being "shittier" to other people because of how I was treated? Here you go again with your assumptions. I have UTMOST respect for females. My entire family is female: my mom, two older sisters, two aunts, and my grandma. That's my entire family. I was raised by them and care for them and respect them deeply. Just as I do any other female. Way to make assumptions about me and my ideals.

5) Guess what? There are multiple "good looks" for women as well! Many men love girls with a few extra pounds, many men love women who look like super models. Many men love women who look totally different from what society deems as "beautiful." The same goes the other way: many women love men who are bigger, smaller, more muscly, less muscly, etc. The fact that you don't understand this is hilarious. =) What I'm talking about, when I make statements about being pressured to look a certain way, is the way SOCIETY views us. Society tells women to be super models. Society tells men to be tall, dark, muscular. That's the pressure I'm talking about, which is entirely different from personal taste.

"It sucked for you but wasn't nearly as bad as it was for other people." You are fucking hilariously ignorant. I love it. You know nothing about my life, what I went through. You are the person who is blind to anything but descrimination towards certain groups (i.e. blacks, women) and fail to see how others can be just as greatly affected and hurt.

You are what's wrong with our society. Plain and fucking simple. Try to learn outside your cute little bubble sometime.

My arguement came off as  off topic here and I find your points fully valid. However, I'm talking about femanists agasint sexualization of women in the media. This is fully relevant to this topic because sexualization is the main issue here. Again as I have described in my previous posts, I fail to see any rationality in feeling offended by what other people do, regardless of whether they are a member of your gender or not unless their actions directly infringe upon your own rights. The women (and men) in the media, they get paid to do what they do, they agree with the terms and condition that comes with the job offer and it is fully within their personal freedom to proceed with the consesual contract.

In that regard, if anyone is simplistic enough to persume truth of any protrayal of women in media, then the offended women should seek her solution with that person, not complain in a wishful hope that the media offering fulfils their expectations or caters to their insecurities because some women like being sexualized, they know their beauty and they want people to see what they are gifted with.

It just seems to me that in most cases, there is a misunderstanding that the sexualization of woman impose a certain standard on women and what men in general deem attractive and that makes women who are naturally less attractive feel even more insecure/ unfairly treated. Well guess what, attraction to beauty is a predisposed psychological element inherent to men and no amount of desexualization of women in the media is going to change that. It is not like anyone see those dancers on stage, look around and expect the first women in sight to strip, get on stage and start dancing. If you are attractive, people will find you attractive. If you are not, then don't feel insecure that the attractive women are getting the spotlight. Nobody is forcing those women at a gun point either.

1) Then you really aren't looking hard enough... espiecally with women.... it happens quite a bit.  Dead Island bloody torso ring a bell for example?  The point is, plenty of things bring this back... including... what you refrenced in the OP.    Hence the outrage.

2)  No, i pretty much can say that... because yeah it has happened.  Again did you ever once feel like property or brought back to when you were a slave.  Everything you went through could and HAS happened to black people and women... with the addition of being brought back to the negatives once inflicted on them... and also still inflicted on them often in society.

3)  Again... you were being compared to other white guys right?

4)  It's not an assumption.... I mean, you did start this thread afterall.

5)  No there isn't.  Not in the same way.  If you study sociology you'll notice a there is a specific ideal woman  This doesn't exist for men.

Once again, I suggest... look at the 100 top hottest guys.  Compare that to the 100 top sexiest girls.  You'll note the guys come in many more body types, and ethnicities.

Sure some guys here or there prefer different things.... they are a minority compaired to the majority of men who have been socially groomed to like one specific type of woman.

MEANWHILE, for men, there are multiple different archtypes that have fairly evenly split devotion and no one "ideal" form that the majority of a women find attractive.

Basically if you were to take 10 guys in a room and tell them to come to an agreement on the ideal woman... they would finish rather quickly, even if someone disagreed they'd still find that woman hot.   Ask the Woman the same thing and you probably aren't getting an answer remotely soon... Vin Diesal, Justin Timberlake, George Clooney.  There will be women who find one of those 3 extremely hot, and thing the other two are awful looking.  Doesn't really happen the same very often with men.

Also the stuff i'm talking about comes from the actual field of sociology.... the scientific study of society.  This is stuff coming from the sociological perspective.  In otherwords... i'm not the one in a bubble.  Well technically EVERYBODY is in the bubble of sociology and culture which effects us in tons of ways we don't know, but the important part here is... I know what's going on at least.

As an example

If you take that test as honestly as possible your likely going to be pretty surprised.  Though possibly not since i imagine you can guess where it's headed and might hestiatie a lot more because of it.
