Forums - Microsoft - EDGE 'always on, always connected' Durango SDK leak is real

Wait.. why are people still babbling on about bluray. It's obvious the market was moving towards that. Last gen we had; games spanning across multiple disks, compressed videos, content reduced due to size restraints.. so on and so forth. If it wasn't so important, the Nextbox and Wii U (using similar technology) wouldn't have it.

main reason is movies.

And better sound ;)

they was almost spot-on for the orbis leaks, so this seems credible to me.

does this mean you cant turn off console like all the others? it doesnt make sense, if its always foing to be on kinda like a server then itl be going kaput a lot.

sorry not impressed so far i hope the full reveal is much different

So basically

No used games. Never stated anywhere. False inference.

Always online. Never stated that you HAD to always be online. Only that the console supports it. The purpose of it is the same as what the PS4 announced it would do. To download updates and patches and provide an "Instant On" experience.

But access to all games at a given time.

Welp. That's that then.

it never stays always online but always connect like it is now

PS4 - "Additionally, users can boot a variety of applications including a web browser when playing a game on PS4"

if thats not online then what is.

everybody need to really just calm down and wait for ms to clarify the purpose of always connected and if it goes beyond just "automatic game and software updates"

Seems like in the end Micro realized that Blu-ray isn't as unnecessary as they said years back, if the rumors are true.

Bluray was unncessary for the 7th gen. Especially for the price. Not a single PS3 game demonstrated we needed Bluray.

The Bluray hardware is cheap now and next gen games will require more space. Seems like a no brainer now.

false, a lot of the 1st party titles ran up to 20Gb

I repeat, using a lot of space on a Bluray doesn't convince me we needed Bluray for the 7th gen. The only real advantages we saw was less disc swaps and sharper movies.

There were 3rd party games that used 20GB as. While their Xbox countrerpart used a single DVD.

You're forgetting that bluray would've always stayed expensive if not for the PS3. You have to bite the bullet sometime. The reason why people were calling the PS3 futureproof.

Uhmmmm... no. Bluray would have inevitably became cheaper. Bluray has been around for like 6 years now. In a few years we'll probably get some new media that lets us watch 4K video resolution.

The PS3 is futureproof? Games are already being designed that won't be on PS3 because of its limited capabilities.

Believe this: it will have a way to turn it off.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

So a secret source is confirming that unconfirmed rumors are now confirmed? Sounds legit. Then again, the PS4 rumors were more or less correct in most areas.
Guess we'll have to see!

Mandatory installs will be pretty damn annoying. As if consoles aren't already PC lite.

There are already mandatory installs this gen.

I know, but supposedly it's standard on Durango.

Don't see a problem here, reduces loading-times by a lot. Why is it annoying? Also we don't know if Sony goes a different way. Also I prefer to install a game completely than just some parts of it as it stresses the ODD more and increases loudness and heat in the system.

As I said, installs are for PC, plug & play is for consoles.

I hate the line being blurred.

Doesn't sound terrible to me.

Only thing I hope for is that if a game is installed, has a activation code and not played from the disc, will I be able to de-activate the game from that console, thus allowing me to buy/sell as used.

Nothing is for certain yet, but if for some reason this is like a one time use system and it kills my chances of buying and/or selling my games then I will keep away. I don't have unlimited funds these days, so for the first time ever, beginning this generation, I have been selling my games to buy new games. I don't buy them used.

Like I said though, nothing is for certain. For all we know we can install these games on multiple consoles, but I doubt this is the case. No doubt there HAS to be an activation code.

See that is exactly what I do too. People say second hand market doesn't put money back to developers, but I trade old games in to purchase BRAND NEW Games. The people buying the used games are essentially buying the new games for me.
