Forums - Sales - Wii U Initial Sales Better Than PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360?

Metallicube said:

Why did PS3 and 360 start of with stagnant sales only to gain more momentum and eventually find themselves on pace for a solid 80 mill or more? The high price, and the lack of notable games; the SAME reason the Wii U is currently stagnant. While Wii U RIGHT NOW isn't worth buying, that doesn't mean it won't be in 2 years. Once the onslaught of quality Nintendo software comes, the sales will inevitably come. Call me an optimist, or Nintendo biased (most likely what you are thinking), but I still strongly believe the Wii U will bring in AT LEAST 75 million in sales, despite its slow start.

I call you an optimist and Nintendo biased, because you ignore that the WiiU has now a worse momentum than PS3 and X360:

I predicted 50 million for WiiU before the launch, now I think it will be hard to reach that, despite the good initial sales.

I don't respond to long posts ever, I just get too bored to even bother and I don't find it worth it in all honesty. Nothing against you, I ignore every long post.

Also, I think 50mil is optimistic though realistic. I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 50mil but I would be surprised if it reached higher than that... and wouldn't be surprised if it were lower

Interesting to notice how many people here just love to transform any Nintendo-related article into a Nintendo doom article.

yes WiiU is still slightly ahead of PS3 launch aligned (probably not for long if your consider the PS3 EU launch) BUT PS3 cost 599€ at that time. In terms of consumer value PS3 wins.

So is it so hard to look at the sales-data and to admit the WiiU initially sold better than the PS3? That's what the thread is about.

That is a fact. But surely you are trying to create a discussion about why that is? Otherwise the thread ends after the first post.

Nope, I answered to KingHades who claimed including the european launch the PS3 would be ahead. I provided numbers that this claim was wrong and got attacked for it from other posters. So no, seemingly people don't agree with the fact that the initial sales were good.

Let's compare Toyota Corolla (Wii U) launch sales to Porsche Cayman S (PS3) launch sales.

Makes PERFECT sense!

The Wii would be the Toyota Corolla, just saying. The Wii U is more like a smart car with a Hayabusa engine.

I'd prefer the Hayabusa.

What possesses people to do such things? -_-

Let me just slap this V-12 into a Civic! It's so silly!

It's starting to trend behind the PS3 in the US anyway.

The PS3 sold 124k or so its first February (Feb 2007), the Wii U did 66k, so PS3 was almost double the Wii U for the corresponding month, which is pretty sad when you consider the PS3 was $500/$600 at that time with no games either.

Not to mention the PS3 had to deal with the way cheaper and super hyped Wii launching right along side with it, the 360 competing directly $200 cheaper with Gears of War, and last gen consoles. Wii U only has to compete with last gen consoles, and it's already selling at less than half the rate month to month even though the industry has grown since then.
