Thank you, I thought I was the only who felt that way about FFX. Spoony talked about the game like it was the more stupid thing he ever saw and I remember being totally mesmerized about the whole FFX history

Personally, I want FFXIV:RR to be a PS4 launch title. It would be particularly beneficial to both Sony and SE if the game came with the PS4 with a free 1 or 2 month subscription. That would be an insane launch bundle, and would sell more PS4's for Sony, and make SE a lot more money in the long run than just waiting for people to download XIV and subscribe would.

free 1 month = a lot of potential future subscribers, especially if it is bundled with every PS4 sold. (imagine having 70 million copies of an MMO out there??) That would be huuuge.

Of course, this wouldn't work if Sony is planning on launching the next EverQuest MMO on the PS4...Which would be orgasmic.

LOL, I would think a 120M budget is hard to recover even for a FF on PS3 and X360 with >70M install base each. But exclusively to PS4 it will not sell enough to break even, not to talk about profit.
If that rumor is true, that would mean SquareEnix is begging for insolvency. Or that Falcom is buying them. Hmm, SquareFalcomEnix.

Sony paid a lot of money to get it exclusively to PS4. At this budget we talk about a really big moneyhat. At least 50M, but 80M seems more likely regarding the loss in sales on a new platform. But that would mean Sony is begging for bankrupty...

We assume for a moment that both companies aren't completely out of their mind and this rumor is probably untrue. Which seems to be the best explanation.

Everyone is going to buy a PS4 anyways if you really want a console for core gaming - They don't say it will come Day 1 for the PS4 so till then there are enough people.
Alone the possibility to be a Sony Exclusive is a boost of like 2-5 Million extra Sold Units for a Final Fantasy.

Side note, the actual development of the game didn't start until September 2011, and slowed down again due to XIV disaster.

Where are you getting this from? The 2011 trailer which showed gameplay was shown in January 2011.



Only the core staff were working on it before Sep 2011, this was confirmed by Nomura. Versus never had a large team or resources to nearly cost that much. People are over exaggerating as always .

They did a great job in portraying Waka as your typical religious fanataic with his opinion on things that end up discriminating things and people around him. I like the way he was forced to a path where one by one his religious conceptions where shattered as he moved forward and started to see how his views where harming the people he loves and came to love.  Just to receive the final blow when he discovered the true nature of his religion.

There is a feeling of expectancy throughout the whole game as you kind of wonder: "What will happen when Waka finds out that...". XD
