Unless things change with Microsoft, which is possible, I think they are the least necessary because of their relative lack of first-party IPs. Even if they dropped from the console market, I have no doubt Halo would continue, at least on PC--which, honestly, would be my preferred way of playing it, regardless.

However, I think Sega should stay as a third-party publisher. From where they're at, they enhance the other consoles, which is good for gaming. It would hurt both Sony and Nintendo to lose them.

I'm not sure, another Sega console would seem like a dream, but they probably wouldn't be the company I remember. They had the chance to create amazing games on other platforms and they didn't. They just seem to have lost all talent.

If I knew that they'd be back to like they were back in their glory days, I'd probably kill of Microsoft.

MS would be my choice. Nothing against the company, I just don't care about the games they do.

Yeah the Sega we knew died. I don't need a Sega system tbh. All I need is Sega making more good games. I think Sony and MS do have the most know how on how to design good Hardware/Software/Infrastructure. Not talking about reliability even though Sony also does ok in that aspect and MS just made a one time only mistake, I hope.




Nintendo should also drop out of the console Hardwares business and make their 3DS compatible to PS4/720 get an official Nintendo shop on PSN/Live and the permission to create official Nintendo peripherals for both systems if there are no Sony and MS alternatives.

I do miss the days of true games companies competing. Nintendo and Sega, games were their business. They lived and died by their arcade machines, consoles and software. Sony and MS joining the games industry was in some ways good - it pushed certain things forward and mainstream - but in many ways bad - they don't truly care about gamers per se, they use machines to push other products. Both Sony and MS have used expensive, money-losing systems as a way to try to conquer the industry. It's bad for it. It's pushed tech further than it should be. As consumers we win because we get systems cheaper than they should be, but the industry loses with unsustainable business models, costly AAA titles and bankruptcies.

I would welcome Sega back as a hardware maker. If I had to pick one to leave to make room, right now it would probably be MS. Nintendo is a true games-only company so I want them to stay forever. 7 years ago I would have said Sony could leave because I was pissed at them for using the Playstation brand to push Blu-Ray. Right now, despite owning XBox1&2, I'm most unhappy with MS. I think the next machine is going to be used to push Windows hard. They are going to push PC connectivity, Windows Phone connectivity... I think it's going to be one big marketing tool. They are also pushing the subcription model harder too, which I hate. Sucking money out of us. I don't really want to see any company gone, but I am always in favor of any company that is in the business for games and for gamers. So right now I'd take Sega over MS, though I hope I'm plesantly surprised by the next XBox and MS's games strategy.

I would sacrifice Apple and Microsoft just to have Sega be able to release a line of decent games, I don't care if they went back to making hardware, I just want some good games.
