| Rogerioandrade said: I think this media approach towards Nintendo is related to the infancy of the videogame journalism as well. People hate Nintendo because their games are aimed to a broader audience - families and kids, while videogame sites and magazines insist in responding that games should be focused on adult content only, and some developers accept that approach. I believe that this whole idea of videogames as just products for adults is somewhat dumb and pointless. While people still believe in this idea, games are doomed to be an entertainment niche market forever, unlike movies,tv and music, which are universal a accepted by everyone |
This is the point though, as Nintendo aims for that broader audience, it alienates (or at least effects the perception of) many more mature gamers, and the audience which once flocked to the console in droves just isn't there anymore - the kids of today would rather have the latest iOS/Android powered phone, Tablet and play 'adult' consoles because their friends do too.
If nintendo were ever to die off and go software-only, the fault would not lie with Sony and Microsoft, but with the explosion of popularity in mobile phones and tablets - Infact looking back the introduction of tablets is roughly where Wii started to drop it's relatively good sales record.
