Nintendo has consistantly offered durable consoles that rarely break, can't take that away from them.

My personal experience with Playstation has been mostly positive in this regard. My PS1 was a monster, the thing still works even today(the open button is a bit sticky tho). PS2 Fat worked fine for the first 3 years, then the lens died on me, sent it in to sony for free, but I did pay for shipping and handling. Got that console back and it died again another year later. Thats when I upgraded to the PS2 slim, which worked like a dream, never any hitches. The only faulter of quality for me was the Fat version, and I never really blamed Sony for that cuz my nephew dropped it off a high shelf and it was constantly in use.

That's everything that matters, Cloudy (May I call you like that? :3). My personal experiencie with Microsoft may has not been the best of the best, but hey, I'm positive with them. I like the 360, even if it RROD me once.

I realize its going to be up to the individuals preference. I am not trying to say its wrong or right. I am just giving a perspective of how I(and many others) percieve the situation and trying to gain insight to why/how someone could see this same situation so differently?

The other consoles have many flaws as well, I don't deny that, MS's just seem more unforgivable to me. I have been thinking about starting a similar thread for the others, as to quell the animosity from the MS camp so they don't think I am just picking on them or whatever...

The only valid argument you have is the RROD. Microsoft abandoned the hardcore gamer?  Here is the equivalent list for the PS3:

1. Many people were suckered into a $599 game console that did little but play movies.

2. The blockbuster titles like Uncharted, Gran Turismo were few and far in between. The good games didn't come until a few years into the PS3's life cycle.

3.The Playstation network trophy system and Playstation Plus online services were whipped up at the last minute to try to lure back Xbox Live customers. The PSN hacking debacle was an epic PR disaster. It struck the company off guard and really made the company look clueless and foolish.

4. Sony gave up too many exclusives to Microsoft that made the PS2 and PS1 hits like Metal Gear, Final Fantasy, GTA games, and many, many other games.

5. Sony getting rid of backwards compatibility of PS2 games really did hurt them big time, which is part of the reason gamers were slow to adopt the PS3. There was no reason to buy a PS3 if people could still buy PS2 games. Sony failed to seal the deal with the PS3 and convince PS2 owners.

6. People were not fooled by the Playstation Move, which was obviously a Wii remote ripoff.

7. The Sixaxis controller was useless and it was scrapped for the Dualshock 3, and the Sony really needed to change that controller design. Even hardcore PS3 fans have to admit that the Xbox 360 controller was a better quality, more ergonomic controller.

8. Sony still beating a dead horse decides to release the PS3 Slim and Super Slim which was a backwards step in design, and degradations of the original and they tried to rehash past marketing efforts, lol. Microsoft answered back with their own "Slim" version which wasn't just a cheapened version of the original like the PS3 Slim but an all around better, sleeker, upgraded Xbox 360.

Sony screwed up more and had more damage control measures this gen than Microsoft.

1. in the begining, I would say thats true

2. Yes, in the first 2 years

3.  Sony definitely was playing catch up with everything related to online. They had really no experience in it, while 360 had the first Xbox as a template on what to improve. They eventually caught on tho.

4. Yes, they lost them...wouldn't say they gave them up tho. They just refused to throw money at devs(money they didn't have anyway) in order to secure their exclusivity. They refused to play MS's game of who's checkbook is bigger. I think Sony learned a very valuable lesson from this tho. Don't put too much faith in 3rd Parties. Nintendo knew this already. Since then Sony has cultivated a massively powerful collection of 1st Party Studios.

5.Hated the fact they got rid of BC too, I did understand it tho. It was an expendable expense, in a time where they needed to slash price to be more competitive. They found a better way of letting people still get their PS2 fix tho, one that would lead them to more profits as well. I'm not completely condoning this practice tho. Yet many who whined about no more BC didn't really wanna play PS2 games, they just didn't like the idea of it losing features. I think their is an important inverse to this that should also be pointed out. PS3 started with a hefty plethora of functions(hardware wise) with BC, rechargeable controllers, HDMI ports, Wifi, BR Functionality and later cut a few things to gain a pricing advantage. 360 omitted several inclusions just so they could resell much better versions at a later day.So basically PS3 was built to appeal to tech gadget fanatics and then later issued dumbed down versions for those who didn't care for such things and just wanted it to be cheaper. 360 made a gimped product from jump, and added expected features later to get existing owners to rebuy yet another console.

6. Agreed. But the Move is not a failure. It sold 15million, the Kinect is a bit above 20million by comparison and that is with a 50+million dollar budget. Now the Move's game library is actually sprinkled with a few really inventively well made ones....but they got zero marketing and released with zero fanfare and floped in sales by default.

7. There were a few games that too very good advantage of the Sixaxis functions. Heavenly Sword and Folklore come to mind. The rest made it way too gimicky, and it of course was a rushed addition to answer to Wii. The only thing really wrong with the controller was the damn back triggers which were very slippery. The form factor is really a regional game. If you are a 6ft, 200+ pound man then yea, the PS2 controller might feel puny and uncomfortable. Yet to the general public of JP, and people with more average sized hands find no issue with it and often times prefer it. I saw some surveys that said it was really a 50/50 split on which controller style they prefer. The inclusion of a mic jack in the controller was ingenius tho.

8. You do know the PS3 outsells 360 every month tho right? You say it as if the 360 is doing better than it sales wise which is actually the opposite. Just because NPD totes how great the sales of 360 is in th US, they fail to aknowledge that these are WW companies, and the 360 suffers virtually everywhere else(pretty much anywhere where english isn't the dominant language). PS3 tops sales on the reg as can be seen on the VGC homepage.

I'm a 5' 7" Italian with very small hands and the PS3 controller is still uncomfortable for me to hold. The difference between the Xbox 360 controller and PS3 controller is like night and day. Plus the sticks are too close together, it just feels unnatural in your hands. The triggers are convex, and the whole controller just feels like cheap plastic.

And the Xbox 360 still has the lead worldwide, and has been leading in the US for the past couple years. The United States is the biggest market, and that is where the sales really count.

Its of course each person's personal pref on which they like. Like I said, there were studies on which controller form factor is prefered and some of them have it at 50/50. I have no issue with the 360's design, exept for the non symetrical sticks, that part irks me. I do think PS's sticks are too close, and the 2 triggers on the PS3 were horrid. Luckily for us than that both of those things are rectified on Dualshock 4 (further spaced sticks and concave L2R2 buttons).

Take in account, Sony is a Japanese company (although have been catering to the Western World more of late), many Japanese have very small hands. They despise the 360 controller's bulkiness and prefer the slim Sony design. I think this gives Sony more incentive to keep the current layout they have. Some of the countour stuff can be altered but not the positioning of the buttons etc else they would tick off that section of the world.

Man this thread is hilarious. Apparently MS has not provided games for gamers like me for like 4 years. What are all these incredible games I have been playing then? I guess I need to cancel my Judgement preorder, get a refund on that awesome Shogun game I bought a couple weeks ago, and stop playing that Forza Horizon gem they released late last year. Apparently these things don't exist.

Don't forget about Halo 4. It hasn't left my 360 disc tray since it game out. That's how good it is.

I did play The Walking Dead, but it didn't have a disc so Halo 4 stayed in the tray and was there when I came back for the second half of Spartan Ops

Other than dropping the support for the 360 this year, and not erasing the Live fee, I don't see what's so "unforgivable" about them. Perhaps I'm less touchy than you, but seriously. Microsoft had no fucking idea about what to do when they got into the gaming bussiness. Years have passed, and since, they have provided excelent entertainment for millions of gamers, as well as a capable competition that has pushed the boundaries of gaming quality. Look PSN. It would not be what it is today if Live had not existed. I am not saying Microsoft has done everything correctly; they are not the bosses around here or anything like that; and they have yet room for improvement; but considering the two rivals it was facing (Sony and Nintendo), I think they have done great with their system. Seriously. That's why I will go on in supporting them. Of course, they keep going downhill, there will be a point on which I'll lose the respect I have. But until then, bleh.

Show me these so called studies...

No the Japanese despise the Xbox because it's American, and American products are not allowed to succeed on Nintendo and Sony's home turf. They still have a chip on their shoulders for bombing the sh.. out of them. Europe hates us too, that's why the PS3 and Wii do better there.

We need to hand it to MS since they did many things right.

- They launched the console in time, good timing to steal enough market share to push it over. If 360 had not been shipped a year earlier, it would never stand a chance against PS3. MS already lost Europe and Japan, and the primary support came from US Gamers, who were directly addressed by an American Company, rather than a distant Japanese one, who acted too little too late, and whose priority audience were just not Americans

- They were affordable at different price points unlike the Cocky Sony, who demanded a second job!

- Their development tools were much better, and the system was way more approachable.

- They had deep pockets for huge amounts of marketing.

- They were pretty successful at convincing game developers for the credibility and reliability of the platform.

etc...

But I do hate Microsoft on so many accounts, that's true! I have supported Xbox efforts because I had detested the new PS3 (up until the release of the redesigned slim model) but now that the playing field is leveled up, lets come to our regular senses.

Microsoft is a soulless M3 (Money Making Machine). They do not respect anyone, they do not love or hate anyone, and they only care about your money. That's normal but they also have no style, no character, no principle, no "nothing"....

They are in the
-console business
-tablet platform
-smartphone platform
etc..

all because they are trying to sustain their "desktop / business hegemony", that's all. If there were no playstation, there would be no xbox! No iphone and android would mean no windows Phone! (please don't tell me about the half baked windows mobile! They were never serious about those endeavors!)

I abstain from using MS products, save Windows XP and Office XP because

The minute they release a new product, they retain zero loyalty to their all customers! I am still using Windows XP, and I get practically zero support from any MS Products (Direct X, Sky Drive, Int. Explorer etc are all gone) while almost everybody else still fully supports it. When their arch rivals support their legacy platform but they don't, they get to understand that there is something f...ed about those bast.rds....

I strongly urge you to avoid all MS products at any cost. I never bought one single MS Product in my life, except for those that came BUNDLED with the system (Windows XP and Office XP and prior). Hewlet Packard is another as$hole, which is a different story, but the vast majority of about "How slow those netbooks / laptops are" actually are nothing but a product of MS and firms like HP.

My friend's netbook was unbearably slow and laggy, for example. It had 3 main problems:
a) It had Windows 7 starter, possibly the worst OS for a netbook today
b) It had tons of HP and MS bloatware
c) It was swarming with useless junk and malware

after a good 8 hours of cleaning all this, it was much faster, at least bearably so, not bad for a windows system. Then I went ahead and installed Puppy Linux as a dual boot, and oh my goodness! My friends couldn't thank me enough and didn't believe HOW NINJA FAST the computer became! I told him that it was the FUC.ING WINDOWS that kept the system in its knees, due to its bloat and all those extra processes that have to run for security etc.

In a sentence, try to beware MS as much as you can.

I wanna see someone do a list about what sony did wrong this gen.

1 - Eliminated Backwards Compatibility
2 - Eliminated the Other OS option
3 - The great hack of 2011 (I think it was 2011)
4 - got off to a shitty start.
5 - Mandatory Installs (I'm really reaching on that one, it's really not a big deal)

I'd take a lack of backwards compatibility and a temporary problem in the hack over having to pay for XBL gold and RRoD any day. The thing with sony is that, when they fuck up, it never really affects me. I have a functional PS2, even though I prefer having backwards compatibility, so that sucked but wasn't really a big deal. The OtherOS thing was for their own stability, and the people who used it was a sliver of a minority, so whatever. Get a goddamn computer if you care so much about Linux. The hack was the fault of...well hackers whining about the OtherOS thing (and seriously, somebody call the waahmbulance). It had a bad first couple years, but it ended up being on top. Requires a little faith, but I won't pretend that wasn't a bad marketing/business decision. also, the redesigns and Move are not 'complaints', nor are they something to be objectively criticized for, it's a personal opinion. I HAVE a move and I don't like it, but I don't act like Sony is a criminal for giving me that choice that I happened to not like.

and seriously, Mandatory installs don't take long and can be deleted at will. No whining about that. It's unfortunate, but free online, blu ray players, quality exclusives and multiplats, cross system play, account and DLC sharing, etc.

Point is, by the time it was all said and done, PS3 is a superior console to Xbox 360. Xbox's fans tend to be a bit more dedicated, but in terms of game quality, game quantity, overall value, features, and online, PS3 is just better. I should update my 'exclusives' list so I'm not just talking out of my ass when I make a claim that PS3 games are better and there's more of them.

Regardless, Microsoft has burned me this gen, I do not trust them. if IDO get a Nextbox, it won't be for at least 6 months so I can be sure it won't break on me, and that it has games I want.

This person gets the OP.  This is the kind of answer I am looking for.  However if you plan on getting the Nextbox anyways, that is fine.  JUST TELL US WHY instead of complaining that this thread shouldn't exist!

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

http://forums.gametrailers.com/thread/-poll-ps3-controller-or-xbox-3/787445?page=14

almost 900 ppl voted, 51% for PS3 controller

http://gamer.blorge.com/2008/11/22/analysis-ps3-vs-xbox-360-controller-comparison/

I can't find it, but there was a poll in like Famitsu or something about it and they prefered PS3 design much more.

While I don't completely dispute their might be some domestic byass towards PS3 in japan, the same can be said about 360 and it's design.  Being an american based product doesn't seem to be hurting Apple products in Japan tho. The truth of the matter is the Japanese frequently see american base products and subpar as far as design and tech goes....because they usually are. Even americans know when you buy an american based product, expect  some problems. Take cars, almost every foreign made brand far out performs them. I personally see what they mean. I tend to stay away from things made by american companies for the same reason(not all things, just some).
