Was a smart move for Nintendo to finance these games. This is really the only way third parties can be trusted on a Nintendo platform in terms of exclusivity, as further proven by Ubisoft yesterday. Nintendo must always assume now that any third party that releases a game exclusively on Wii U will eventually come running to Sony and MS's consoles, because "Nintendo users don't buy their Gamez! Whaaa!"
Nintendo really needs to keep up this practice of personally financing and publishing third party games on Wii U, or even better, buying out smaller companies outright. Let's face it, in this day and age it is very tough to get and keep exclusives, even for Sony and MS. So this is the only way I see around this. It might cost more, but in the end it is worth it because it gives consumers more reason to buy your console, as Bayonetta 2 and Wonderful 101 already have. Though most Bayonetta fans probably won't buy a Wii U anyway because they are stubborn. They would rather just hate on Nintendo and miss out on one of their favorite franchises.

In light of this newfound information, I hereby formally rescind my old estimate of the chances of a PS3/360 port down to 97% likely.

Most third parties left Nintendo exclusivity for technology reasons but still support them in other ways.
Yeah, there's the moral support way, the lip service way, the...nostalgiac?...way...

Nintendo and Platinum didn't "screw" Bayonetta fans; they gave them an opportunity to play a sequel that otherwise would not have existed.
Why not blame Microsoft and Sony for not grabbing the game the way Nintendo did? Of course it makes sense that they didn't; they knew it wasn't a goldmine and they didn't need it to change their image.
Wonderful 101 is no different from The Last Story, Xenoblade, Sin & Punishment 2, Pandora's Tower, Endless Ocean, Excitebots, etc.
Nintendo finances games all the time.

actually not exactly the same as with xenoblade being that it was developed by a firstparty studio unlike the other games you listed
Sales of the game are irrelevant to the Platinum Games They are already paid by Nintendo. They don't need to boost sales in order to make their money back.
It could sell 0 copies on the Wii U and Platinum Games is still paid. Even Sega is already paid for any licensing requirements needed since they own the IP.
Sales are irrelevant to everybody except Nintendo. All other parties involved are paid already.
