The PS3 launched at 50k and 40k yen (the two models) and were priced at $600 and $500 in the US.
So does a 40k+ yen PS4 = $500 again for a console in US?
Not sure how much the conversion rates have changed, but if this rumor has any merit, that is not looking good for Sony.

if it will be 400 dollar and 400€ it would be less as ps2 did cost here in germany at release which was i believe 869dm or ~440€.
so yeah, price would be good and much lower as ps2 considering inflation. even with 500€ it would be much lower lol.

That is actually a good point, so, I guess only time will tell. But I will not buy the WiiU until I am sure that there is something amzing in it that I want to experience.
It could be like when I bought a PS3, I knew it was similar to the 360 I already had, and still have, but I wanted to play the exclusives, at the time Uncharted 2, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles and Siren Blood Curse. It was great and many other exclusives blew me away, like Killzone 2 and my beloved Heavy Rain.
However, I had it with the HD twins, don´t want to add a third brother to the bunch, if the WiiU is only the Nintendo PS3, them I don´t want it.
But, how you said, only time will tell...

That PS4 compatibility would equal an instant buy pretty much. I can give my old launch 60gb a final rest.
