Madden has to come to Wii U, It's not up to EA, they are basically required to release Madden on all platforms by their NFL exclusivity contract. Hence the half assed game they released for WiiU launch.

They only have to if it reaches a certain sales threshold. They probably gimped it so they wouldn't have to make another one, like they did for 3DS.

So we should write a letter to the NFL saying EA is sabotaging the games so the NFL wont earn more money.   Lets see how that ends for ea xD

Did the 360 not have an obvious instant selling point of being the only HD version? A simple yet large difference visually between versions. The Wii U version had no such selling point.

If people are buying Vitas for Madden, that speaks more to the kind of people who buy Vitas than it does the supposed unviability of the Wii U.

It's not exactly EA's fault that Nintendo decided to make a console roughly on par with current gen.  Seems like something to take up with Nintendo.  The Wii U version does utilize the tablet, though it is up for debate whether that is a selling point in general.  It also doesn't explain why the PS3 saw 10x higher sales on a smaller install base in 2006 despite not having that selling point of being the only HD version.

It is EA's fault that they couldn't use the 2.5 months between the PS3/360/Wii/Vita and Wii U releases to make the game actually on par with the other versions, or better (as it absolutely should have been).

If they didn't intend to make the game right, they shouldn't have made it at all, and they have no grounds to complain about its sales.

I'd actually watch that with popcorn in hand.

Once again, this is no different from the first Madden appearance on PS3 and 360.  They both had problems and were missing features.

Every reason you've listed in this thread, late release, no install base, missing features, etc. was true for the 360 and PS3.  Despite that, those versions sold vastly more than the Wii U version.  So we are left with Madden simply selling extremely poorly on the Wii U.  Even if Wii U had been a perfect port with no missing features, how much do you think it would have sold, realistically?  Keeping in mind, the best selling third party game in the USA for Wii U is substantially lower than the 360 and PS3's first Madden.

It's gonna get awkward when the 2024/25 season starts.

Poorly, of course. It's a football game released in November. Sure, the PS3 '07 & 360 '06 versions sold better than the Wii U version (but again, HD was a significant upgrade. Don't tell me you expected the Wii U version to be 4K compatible.), but that doesn't mean they sold "well." They sold as well as the Wii version ever did. It wasn't until 360 '07 & PS3 '08 that they actually sold decently.

And the PS2 version was the best-selling version each year until 2009. Likewise, I don't doubt Madden 2015 and 2016 will sell best on 360.

If we're just looking at the first 9 weeks, then they did sell more than any Wii version.  Of course the legs wouldn't be able to bring them up to PS2 levels.  The 360 was at 2,259,910 in the US when its second madden came out and the PS3 was at 1,673,88.  The PS2 version alone was selling way more than their install bases.  Of course I haven't been comparing the Wii U to current 360/PS3 Madden sales, but to the sales at their launches.  It's also worth noting the Wii version in 2006 wasn't HD, released late, was missing features, and launched on a console with no install base and also vastly outsold the Wii U version in the first 9 weeks.

So since you seem to admit there was no way that the Wii U version of Madden was going to sell well, why have you been making excuses and blaming EA?  Why would they put extra effort into it if it was going to sell poorly no matter what?

3DS version had poor sales, because it was a stripped down piece of garbage.  I know that for a fact, because I saw it at Barnes & Noble for $7.50 and I gave it a try.  Even at that price, it was a waste.  And when you look at install bases, a higher percentage of Wii U owners bought Madden than 360 or PS3 owners in your comparison.  I just picked up Madden 13 for Wii U last Friday, and it's not bad.  Others might be balking though because EA didn't put their new physics engine in the Wii U game that the 360/PS3 versions got.

Those are Madden sales from the PS3 and 360 launch.  Not current sales.  The Wii U version has sold to 2.1% of owners.  The PS3 version sold to 28.7% at week 9.  The 360 to 21.8% at 9 weeks.  They aren't even in the same ballpark.

Even for current gen after 9 weeks (which doesn't include the holidays, and of course has a much bigger install base) the 360 managed 3.0% and the PS3 4.0% (though from Nintendo's top 20 USA chart, it seems it might actually be undertracked).

2.1% isn't horrible when compared to 3% and 4%

I LOVE ICELAND!

The problem with the EA games currently is that everyone who owns these games, will buy them for Xbox 360 and Ps3. For example, you cannot release Mass Effect 3 on a Wii U, and expect people to buy it, especially when they have campaigns from Mass Effect 1 and 2 to tie in. That would be like releasing Dragon Age 3 for the Wii U, and leaving out 1 and 2. It's weird.

And of course Madden 13 and FIFA 13 will tank in the Wii U, 99% of buyers got it for the Xbox and Ps3. Expect the same to happen with Need for Speed Most Wanted. If you want people to actually buy it, you NEED to release it at the same time as the other consoles.

About 150k of the 2.7 million Wii U owners, own Black Ops 2, why is the percentage down? No DLC, and people are enjoying the game with their friends on PS3 and Xbox. Yes, the Wii U offers some awesome features, if you don't care about Nuketown 2025, for example, being able to play the entire game without a TV, as well as 2 player full screen co-op.

The Wii U is not a failure, not even close. It should've launched earlier than Thanksgiving week, with a $50 discount for Black Friday. There were also a LOT of good games released for the PS3 and Xbox 360, that people snagged up, Borderlands 2, WWE 13, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Battlefield 3 Premium, Resident Evil 6, Assassin's Creed 3, Call of Duty Black Ops 2(not on sale, but you know people ate it up), even Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified managed to sell 600k physical units in 10 weeks, just to name a few games. Are people going to spend $25-$60 on a game, or $300-$549 on a Wii U? That's why it's a tough buy right now, it doesn't mean the system is failed, but you cannot expect people to buy ports.

Look at New Super Mario Bros U, and Nintendo Land, THOSE are unique games you cannot find elsewhere, even ZombiU has an awesome niche(Best selling third party game), besides that, you're going to have to wait a few months for Monster Hunter Ultimate 3, Pikmin, the new Zelda IP, and Dragon Warrior X to get localized.
