Forums - Sony - Capcom explains why 'Resident Evil Revelations' isn’t coming to PS Vita

Well, I just went to Gamespot.com and found this:

Well I was bored and was looking at specs for the PSVita and 3DS doing comparison's and I came across something. The Vita uses a SGX543MP4+ model apparently clocked @200MHZ which is the max so far anyways. This is the exact same GPU as the Ipad 2 and Iphone 4s but the Iphone 4s use a dual core variant while the Vita uses a quad core variant. Well the 3DS uses a Pica 200 which not overclocked can be up to 400MHZ. We don't know what Nintendo is using though. When I did research the Ipad 2 and Iphone 4s was clocked at 68M triangles/s @200MHz. The PSVita had 133M triangles/s @200MHZ. The Ipad 2 and Iphone 4s's GPU triangles/s is around a Pica 200@150MHZ. The PSVita's is just above a Pica200@300MHZ. The Pica@400MHZ was quite a bit higher then the PSVita's in polygons. The rumoured 3DS GPU clock speed is a bit under 300 MHZ though but Nintendo can always update the 3DS and up it to 400MHZ if they want to. Sony did that to the PSP's CPU and raised the clock speed it from 222MHZ to 333MHZ. Anyways the Pica 200 actually isn't praised for it's amount of polys. It actually is praised for it's shaders how it can create such high quality shaders and lighting on par with HD consoles.

Anyways the Vita's GPU on the other hand doesn't seem to boast these extra shader features. I know the Vita does have a lot more RAM and the processing speeds are likely superior, but they don't effect gaming nearly as much as the GPU. The shaders though are far superior, so the shaders remain very impressive and on HD console levels. Anyways this doesn't really matter all that much, but I found it to be interesting that the 3DS actually has a more capable GPU then the all impressive PSVita.

Here's the wiki on the DMP Pica 200

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PICA200

And I assume that you have already watched this video comparison of Spider-Man Edge of Time on the 3DS vs. Wii vs. DS vs. 360/PS3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=aVETRohXnrg

What some forum post on GameSpot? That person is completely wrong. Notice how he doesn't acutally list the polygons for 3DS, he is confusing polygons with triangles. The Pica200 @400mhz can do 160mtriangles/s but its vertex is 15.3 polygons/s.  I just linked the wiki for the Pica 200, it even says 15.3 million polygons/s.

Series5XT (SGXMP) (four cores) 133M polygon/s @200 MHz

Taken right from the PowerVR wiki page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PowerVR_products#Series5_.28SGX.29

The Vita outputs 9 times the polygons on its 5" than 3DS does as its 3.5" screen or 4.9' screen for 3DS XL.

I'm not messing with you, this is cold hard fact. I was just trying to show that the Vita can handle the HD RE:R

Yeah, but Wikipedia also says that the 200 in PICA200 refers to it being 200 MHz at max clock, but then it says that the max clock is 400 MHz.

Plus Nintendo got a Custom PICA200 for the 3DS & a Custom AMD Radeon High-Definition GPGPU for the Wii U.

Plus the photo comparison "Jake_the_fake1" posted of a game (I believe "Time Travelers") seems to show the Vita version having 5 to 15 million more Polygons then the 3DS version.

Well they both seem to have 1 GHz CPU (2 core in 3DS & 4 core in Vita), and the 3DS clearly has way more Shader Cores then the Vita.

So at least we finally see the actual gap in Hardware on this thread, thanks in part to Jake_the_fake1 posting the photos.

I should add that with the 3D ON you see both images Polygons added together, recombine into 1 Three-Dimensional image in your mind visually.

But yeah, the gap isn't that much, as "Jake_the_fake1" has shown us. (so just take it up with him and his photos if you got anything else you want to add, LOL)

Does anyone have a "in game" screenshot of the same part of the 3DS version of that game that "Jake_the_fake1" posted?

You can't count polygons from a picture. More so, you can't compare some game to determine polygon capability, Vita can have games that run on fewer polygons, but it has way more polygon capability than the 3DS.

If it makes you happier I found this:

"Update — TR reader Helmore points to a Beyond3D discussion thread that dug up a more recent presentation (PDF) that mentions a PICA graphics core with a 400MHz clock frequency. That part's performance is pegged at 40 million polygons per second"

That is the highest polygon per second figure I can dig up. I'm not sure if it is true or not because everything else is telling me 15.3 million but it is still a far cry from 133 millon.

I can't find anything on 3DS shader count, so please enlighten me. I read good things but that does not mean it is better than Vita.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

Kaizar, trying to prove that 3DS has a better GPU than the Vita isn't even funny. From the Spiderman comparison the 3DS is much closer to the Wii in every single aspect than to the PS360. Now remember that the Vita GPU is actually better than the PS3 in a few aspects like the Fill Rate. It's worse at poligon number, but 3DS isn't even close. And about the shaders, if 3DS is better, then why do games released approx. 2 years after the launch of 3DS look worse than the launch titles on the Vita?
And trust me, if 3DS was even comparable in any single category to the Vita, Nintendo wouldn't wait a heartbeat to inform us about it.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Nano Assault, a 3DS exclusive, release 2011.

The GameCube has more then 20 million polygons.

The Wii has somewhere from 50 to 100 million Polygons.

So you have just admitted that 3DS has more Polygons then the Wii.

No. I have admitted that this Spiderman game looks a little bit better on 3DS than on the Wii, but is nowhere near the PS360 version. The Wii version of this game looks like crap even for a Wii game and is no benchmark for the Wii's capacities. At the time of it's release Wii games were selling so bad that the devs couldn't care less to try to push the hardware or make the game look good. If you're trying to imply that this Wii game is set aroung a 100 million polygons, then you must either have us for complete idiots or are a master at fooling yourself.

Assume that Wii is capable of 50 million out of your 50 - 100 million range. Now think that this game uses around 60% (this is generous, cause it looks like crap) of it's capacities - that gives us 30 million polies on the Wii version.

Now let's assume the 3DS version is using a higher % of the 3DS capabilities, since the devs actually have interest in pushing the hardware and discovering everything it offers and thus has 35 million out of possible the +/-40 million...

Incredible... This is a proof! Just as strong a proof as what you put in your signature!

I'd love to see the look on your face should Kojima finally announce that this is a Vita game and this is what 130 millions of polygons looks like:

You must be misunderstanding me.

I said that the 3DS Polygon count is clearly higher then the Wii Polygon Count.

And that we all know that the GameCube displays over 20 million Polygons.

And that the Wii clearly has at least 4-5 times the Polygons as the GameCube.

And as I said: the 3DS clearly has more Polygons then the Wii, which puts it at just over 100 million Polygons.

And about the PS Vita GPU:

First announced in January, Imagination Technologies' Series5XT SGX IP is based on a second-generation Universal Scalable Shader Engine (USSE2), delivering "significantly better throughput" than the earlier Series5 USSE shader engine. It's said the architecture scales from 100MHz to 400MHz "and beyond," delivering performance of 35 million polygons per second and a pixel fill rate of one gigapixel per second when running at a mid-range 200MHz.

So either the PS Vita only displays 35 million polygons & the 3DS only 15.3 million polygons, OR there is some info about GPUs being left out about these 2 Handhelds.

Also is there any Vita games that have graphics like "Nano Assault"? (I like to compare)

Or really, considering vit  it makes it more, pretty much anybody not willing to pay someone money to let them work is lazy.

Maybe Super Stardust HD:

However Nano Assault looks miles better.

Because you like posting the same thing in two threads I figured I'b bring this over here too :P

The Vita has 4 of those cores, not just one. So here's math. 35 million x 4 cores = 140 million x 95% efficiency = 133 million

I said that the 3DS Polygon count is clearly higher then the Wii Polygon Count. <- IN THIS SINGLE GAME

And that we all know that the GameCube displays over 20 million Polygons. <- OK

And that the Wii clearly has at least 4-5 times the Polygons as the GameCube. <- CLEARLY? SINCE WHEN? HOW DID YOU GO FROM 50-100 POLYGONS TO 80-100 POLYGONS IN JUST A MATTER OF ONE POST?

And as I said: the 3DS clearly has more Polygons then the Wii, which puts it at just over 100 million Polygons. <- CLEARLY? BASING ON WHAT?

Also is there any Vita games that have graphics like "Nano Assault"? (I like to compare)

Read the bolded part in the quote above.

It's amazing how easily you add "clearly" to things you pull out of your butt and have no proof for. 3DS is not even close to 100 million Polygons. Considering Uncharted: Golden Abyss is just a launch game, it probably is around that number. And there is nothing even remotely close to this game on Wii or 3DS.

Nano Assault looks really nice, but nothing more. The resolution of the 3DS hurts this game badly. If you want a Vita game to compare, try Sine Mora:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iNHOE4hie2M

Nano Assault looks nice, but the gap between these two is huge, pretty much a generation.
