Forums - Sales - Will Microsoft steal the casual crowd from Nintendo?

Who will be the king for casuals next gen?

Microsoft 59 33.33%

Nintendo 71 40.11%

Casual gaming will die 47 26.55%

Total:177

Looking at the sales of the Wii U, it's clear the console doesn't quite have the spice that the Wii had. Much of this can be blamed on the Wii U itself, but perhaps Nintendo's perception to casuals has been damaged. If the Nintendo brand has taken a hit, then will they recover in the future? Or will someone take their place?

Kinect has been a huge success, especially considering it was just an add on. It will definitely be a big factor next gen. Microsoft could push Kinect even harder next gen, perhaps by bundling it with every console and giving it a stronger library. If this happens, could Microsoft take Nintendo's crown in the casual market?

I don't think it's possible for two different brands to see success with casuals. Nintendo was big with casuals earlier this gen. But towards the end of this gen, the Wii began to die down. Coincidentally, that's when Kinect became big. So there wasn't a time when both Kinect and the Wii were huge. However, both I think Microsoft and Nintendo will attack the casual market strongly next gen. Who will win? Who seems better equipped right now?

To be honest the 360 is casual all around.

Its way toooo early to tell. Also in all fairness look at Wii Fit! Thats an add on so why not compare those two instead of a new console!

Wii U also doesn't have the Wii U sports yet or Wii Fit U so cant be judged yet!

Hard to say at this point. It could be tablets and smartphones for all we know. But I think Nintendo will still have the advantage.

The casuals have abandoned Nintendo, And Microsoft are going to screw them selfs if they think they can be successful by taking the Wii route next gen.

Nintendo just needs some software to rev up the wii u. Nintendo had a killer app in wii sports, people of ages were drawn to the idea of wii sports, and it drove system sales like crazy. Wii fit u might fill a gap that hasn't been met on wii u... but I think kinect has moved in to dominate the work out gaming space.

The wii u hardware is great, but it needs that special software to drive performance. I just don't know what that is yet. Nintendo hasn't announced anything yet that will drive sales, imo. I think this E3 is critical to the wii u's future. Hopefully they will pull their ace out of their sleeve there. Either way, if monolith can get an RPG on the system I will be happy with my purchase...

ready!!!! FIGHT!

Casuals only play smartphone games now and the Windows 8 phone isn't doing well so no.

If MS could make their tablets more important and desirable in the next few years and if they could connect their tablets with their new console in an attractive (crossplay, 1 payment for both versions, 2nd screen etc ) i think they would have a great chance to get the casual crowd.. Getting a device that works in combo with your other devices is super attractive for many people..
