hahaha of course its a typo!!! it will be a while until the ps3 gets to that number :P

An eternity would be the more fitting term here.

if by eternity you mean 2/3 years then sure!

Not going to happen.

According to Sony, the PS2 has sold over 153.6 million - http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/release/pdf/111122_e.pdf

By year-end, the NDS should be the best selling console to date, but I'd wait until Nintendo releases Q3 results :)

London, November 21st 2011

Lol, exactly.  The DS has yet to pass the PS2's sales from Nov 2011, let alone its sales from 2012.  This thread is almost as premature as the article VGC published saying the exact same thing, which they were wrong about, too.  Honestly, I don't think the DS will ever do it.  I would imagine the PS2 is will be nearing 160M by the end of this year, while the DS may be at ~153.5M-154M.  Nintendo has a ways to go still.  However, being the 2nd bestselling console ever is nothing to scoff at, so congrats to Nintendo, anyway.

It'll never happen. The PS2 is probably around 160 million shipped now, DS is at 153. Both are still selling but the DS is in a huge decline and will probably be discontinued soon.

The ps2 is still selling but vgchartz doesn't track it anymore. So this isn't really gunna happen anytime soon.

PS2 is heavily undertracked here in Vgchartz. In fact they don't even track it at all for the last few years.

Look all the Sony fanboys on here can try claim that PS2 has sold 156m or 160m, but why would vga stop tracking it if it was selling still in the numbers you all are claiming? And don't say because Sony said so because that's not valid argument as they like to play games with sale numbers.

PS2 has always been so hard to track in VG Chartz because it's in so many places, that's why they stopped because the sales were always way off. From the last shipped numbers of the PS2 which is November of 2011 (a whole year of not tracking) it shipped 153.6 million, we got some quarterly numbers after that where the PS2 was shipping over a million a quarter for some time (not to mention 2011 christmas sales) so obviously the PS2 is still being shipped we all know that and it should be around 160 million now, easily. The PS2 was shipping on par with the PS3/X360 and Wii last year.

We have up to date shipping numbers for the DS which is 152.5 million as of September 30 2012. for these older consoles shipped numbers is all you can go by because really that's all that's going to matter in 10 years time since stock will be all bought up. So clearly the DS is far from outselling the PS2, and since the PS2 is still selling there's a good chance the DS will never outsell it.

Its also worth noting that it was outshipping the DS during said Quarters.

The last hard numbers that we got for the PS2 were in March, when it had shipped 155.1 million. At the time DS was at 151.52 million shipped. Nintendo are only projecting 2.5 million DS shipped this fiscal year (April 2012-March 2012). Sony are projecting 3 million for the PS2 in the same time frame. DS wont even reach the number PS2 was at in March until mid to late 2013, assuming Nintendo don't discontinue it before then.

Proudest Platinums:
1. Gran Turismo 5
2. Persona 4 Arena
3. Wipeout HD
4. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2
5. Super Street Fighter 4

Ok then, can someone please post a link to these numbers somewhere as I have been searching for anything that shows the ps2 in 2012 numbers beyond just the assurances of people posting on here.
