That's just your opinion, especially the "user experience" portion.
I can watch Blu-Ray movies on my PS3. What an amazing user experience.

Orbis and Nextbox really shouldn't release until 2014, at earliest late 2013. All areas of the gaming industry suffered when transitioning into this generation. Many of them still have not fully come to grips with how to effectively make games for this generation, how are they going to be prepared for next? Especially Sony and MS, they need to squeeze the most money they can out of the current consoles. The rumors of iminant sequels is what is stagnating sales (same thing happened to Wii). The second the 8th Gen entries are announced the sales of the current will surely plummet more. Once they are released they can kiss the sales to those consoles good bye. These are not like the PS2 era, PS2's strong selling power after PS3/360's release was a sign that most consumers were not ready for next gen, especially the pricing. 5 year life span always seemed really short to me, especially with the amount of games these consoles can have. With the recession still going on this is only made more evident.

PSN:Forevercloud (looking for Soul Sacrifice Partners!!!)
i always learn something new. what i learned today: low yield means i have to fear a bad quality for my nextbox.
and no, i don't fear a potentially bad quality nextbox for other reasons as low yield which does not even have something to do with this because i have two years warranty in germany and that was enough for my only broken 360 this gen
and it is obviously also hard to get a new product out with problems as big as the first years of xbox 360 even if they would try to make it that bad it would be hard haha
so i think i have to have to replace the nextbox with my own money in maybe 5% of possible cases which would make it an to expecting extra cost of maybe 20 euro!

RROD again? |
Not if they delay it into 2014. But will they do that?
One more thing to complete my year = senran kagura localization =D
M$ would have to be insane to launch a faulty console after the losses they took from that RRoD debacle, and Sony would have to be insane to give their competitors 1 & 2 years in the market ahead of the PS4. Didn't they already say they wanted to release the PS4 before the 720?

| coolguy said: i hope this is just a rumor and the ps4 gets out fall of 2013 they cant afford to ship later unless both consoles come out 2014 |
I agree with this. As far as game development is concerned the PS3 can last until 2014, but for commercial purposes they need to beat Microsoft to the market. Microsoft as far as game development cannot last past the first half of the year.

I don't think they will get away with it if they did try it. Not this time. The only reason people put up with it is because they couldn't afford ps3. If people really want that type of machine next time they will look at sony since I assume they will price themselves more competitively.
IF this is true (its a rumor so who can tell) they have no choice but to delay it or they risk their reputation as a console manufacturer.

Don't coment if you don't know what you're talking about...Let me explain what low yields means to you..... Lets say the yield is 60%, that would mean that out of 100 consoles made, only 60 work. The lower the yield, the more supply you need since most of what you're producing is going to the trash. From what we know the next Xbox isn't being mass-produced yet. They're still only making dev kits. So its too early to tell if this will be another RROD situation. |
I'll call you out, you're absolutely clueless on the RROD issue.
Low yields doesn't mean unreliable chips, it just means less per wafer which means the price is higher per chip. It affects cost and nothing else.
The main thing you misunderstood is low yields had no effect on the 360 reliability, it was due to a lack of understanding during the design phase of the effect of switching manufacturing to lead free solder. The reduction in manufacturing quality combined with a motherboard that was too thin and a poor cooling design resulted in the reliability issues. This was partly due to inexperience of building a completely custom board with custom cpu and gpu rather than tried and tested components like the original Xbo.
Contrary to your beliefs, the slim 360 proved they have learnt their lessons as it was instantly reliable despite being a complete redesign.
Feel free to claim I don't know what I'm talking about but you may want to keep in mind I've fixed over a thousand 360's (plenty of Wii, PS3's, Psp' s, DS's too) of all age, models and faults so my knowledge isn't that of some internet warrior.
ok since ethomaz did even reply to someone saying it's the same like rrod problem i try to explain the yield problem and why it wouldn't affect the quality of your console and hope i am right with that haha

those round things are wafers. on the wafers you have plenty of chips. the yellow squares are defect chips which can't be used for the console. all those defect chips have small red dots because before you use chips for production, a machine is "looking" at the chips (with a laser or whatever) and marking all defect chips with a color. those can't be used then and won't be used. the left wafer has a yield of 35,7% which means only 35,7% of all chips aren't defect after production. if microsoft has this situation right now it would dramatically increase their costs and they would have to produce much more in the same time, that's why it can be a problem for microsoft but probably not for your console.
that's like you would buy a window and would get one with a hole because in the production, 40% of all windows get a hole (yeah that doesn't happen but to show how crazy people are who think you get those chips in your console)
correct me if i'm wrong but that's how i understand low yield.

The site also claims that its inside sources are now referring to Xbox 720 as ‘Kryptos’ 'Kratos', rather than the much-touted ‘Durango’ moniker that is apparently used internally at Microsoft. |
