The current xbox is probably the best hardware out there.

If by best you mean one of the far worse pieces of hardware in the history of hardware, then yeah.

I am sorry but the fail rate of over 50% is something that will forever stay with the 360.

It's not a car, it's not a blender. It's hardware at its most unreliable.

2005-2007 called, it wants your opinion back.

Yet despite that it still managed to have more lifetime sales then the former #1 brand in gaming for the past 2 generations.....

People prefer faulty hardware to a functional PS3.....that in itself says something.

The xbox is only one comparable with ps3.

what the hell are you talking about? since 2007(europe only had 9 months sales and still beat xbox360 in 2007), xbox 360 only sold more than PS3 on 2008... the rest were all PS3 wining years against the 360... and those 5million +++ that bought it in 2005/2006/2007 before the PS3 launch, prefer what? what was there for them to prefer the xbox 360 over? back then, they didn't know it was faulty... so 3 reasons to void completely your statement... poorly thinking by you this time, sorry.

Hardware is just about motherboards?

Once again... I'm talking about build quality, user experience.  The current PS3 is frankly pretty cheap, cheap plastics and some flimsy mechanisms. Not a criticism, just an observation.

the motherboard design was the main reason behind RROD. so 2008 is the significant year in 360's life

And what you talking about "build quality, user experience" is subjctive airtalk. the current PS3 could be made out of cupboard for all I care.

Does it break, over heat, scratch your discs, make noise, burn or demand more power ? No.

The lure is just too good that you just come back.

Blatant lie.

All the gaming media were reporting was how awesome MS was with their warranty and tried to make it sound like the competiton had similar problems with the so called YOLD.

What? The 360 got its fair share of bashing from the American Gaming Media due to the RROD, so enough with the lies.

M$ would have to be insane to launch a faulty console after the losses they took from that RRoD debacle, and Sony would have to be insane to give their competitors 1 & 2 years in the market ahead of the PS4. Didn't they already say they wanted to release the PS4 before the 720?

I don't think they will get away with it if they did try it. Not this time. The only reason people put up with it is because they couldn't afford ps3. If people really want that type of machine next time they will look at sony since I assume they will price themselves more competitively.

IF this is true (its a rumor so who can tell) they have no choice but to delay it or they risk their reputation as a console manufacturer.

Well, I just hope for their sakes and our's that they do whatever it takes to keep the failure rate to a bare minimum. As far as I know, the Xbox brand has yet to break even after the colossal losses that they took from the Original Xbox and early 360, so they can't afford to screw up on another console.

@crissindahouse: no need to correct anything because all you've said is true.

I would only add that Microsoft or any other client can make a deal based either on waffers or chips, meaning that they have to pay for the whole waffer or only for the viable chips.

In the first and more common case, if yields are low then each chip costs more (cost of chip = cost waffer/nº of viable chips). It doesn't affect the quality of the chips.

Very useful pic, btw.

Being obtuse on purpose?

We are talking about the current iterations.

The PS1 and PS2 were shit build quality, didnt stop them selling it?  Sony denied that too... until they lost a class action lawsuit and had to compensate every single user.

they didn't lost... they reach a settlement, its different...

@bold
use "the users affected by the issue", not "every single user", i was a user and didn't had, a problem with disc read error or the need for any type of compensation...

WOW the Sony fans seem to be rampant today spitting vitriol at every turn, but lets be serious do you guys really want to have a conversation about failures as a company this Gen? BTW I wasn't aware that the PS3 was perfectly built in fact I remember the infamous YLOD, the only reason Sony got away with it was because they didn't start selling well until new iterations of the console was available and they were able to fix that problem. But since we are talking about failures ill start Ps3 loss billions, Vita.... well you know. (discuss)

CURRENT.

and by hardware I was referring to games consoles, as you well know.

The current 360 is probably the best console hardware out there.

I beg to differ. The PS3 has better parts on paper but in practice the 360 is easier to develop for.

I'm talking about the user experience and build quality.  The current 360 is better made than the PS3.

That's just your opinion, especially the "user experience" portion.

I can watch Blu-Ray movies on my PS3. What an amazing user experience.

And again.... I am ONLY talking about BUILD QUALITY and RELIABILITY, nothing all to do with features.

but anyway done here becuase someone too young to really know the Sony hardware history wants to believe they are bullet proof and infallible.

Actually my PS2 broke(due to me dropping it though),and my original phat PS3 got the YLOD. The Slim PSP feels super cheap compared to the original..Sony hardware isn't perfect....I know that.

About reliability, I've heard issues with both the Super Slim PS3 and the Xbox 360 S....those aren't perfect either.

In build quality, the Slim 360 SEEMS to be better than the original, I have touched one in person but I haven't done any drop tests to confirm it.
PS3 Super Slim does seem pretty cheap, but I haven't touched one of those at all so I can't really say....

But if you're including sexiness in "build quality" then yes I would say that goes to the 360 Slim.

However, the same site also reported onproblems with the chip’s manufacturing with one source calling the component quality ‘painfully low’. The issue is rumoured to have cause production delays.

RROD again?

The site suggests PS4 will launch Spring or Autumn 2014.

 Good news if true.

The name of the PS4 project is Thebes. As you might have guessed, other than it being an AMD CPU and GPU, we don’t have much more specific details. It is said to be a 28nm part, likely fabbed at Global Foundries or IBM for the first run, and out after Oban. That would most likely be the spring of 2014, but it could be fall of that year too.

I don't like the CPU + GPU together from AMD... seems too weak. But I like the 28nm talk .

Microsoft wouldnt make that massive mistake twice.

Turkish can hope

I'll call you out, you're absolutely clueless on the RROD issue.

Low yields doesn't mean unreliable chips, it just means less per wafer which means the price is higher per chip.  It affects cost and nothing else.

The main thing you misunderstood is low yields had no effect on the 360 reliability, it was due to a lack of understanding during the design phase of the effect of switching manufacturing to lead free solder.  The reduction in manufacturing quality combined with a motherboard that was too thin and a poor cooling design resulted in the reliability issues.  This was partly due to inexperience of building a completely custom board with custom cpu and gpu rather than tried and tested components like the original Xbo.

Contrary to your beliefs, the slim 360 proved they have learnt their lessons as it was instantly reliable despite being a complete redesign.

Feel free to claim I don't know what I'm talking about but you may want to keep in mind I've fixed over a thousand 360's (plenty of Wii, PS3's, Psp' s, DS's too) of all age,  models and faults so my knowledge isn't that of some internet warrior.

I'll take your word for it.

I still disagree with the bolded part though. I'm sure the Slim 360 wasn't rushed to market so they took all the time they had to.  During a console launch they don't have that luxury especially if they plan on beating Sony to market. This is where mistakes can be made. I read a 5page long article about RROD today, took me about an hour to read.
