Forums - Sony Discussion - SONY set to JUNK status

Sony your going to be a different company when my kids are introduced to your products, hopefully it is for the best. It kinda sucks that Sony isn't going to be the behemoth conglomerate it was when I was in middle school and finally got my PS2 and thought that it was the greatest thing ever and Sony was the greatest company ever for making it.

All news related to Sony belongs here.

You are absolutely right. But you did use the word "likely" yourself.

I just made what I think is a very valid point: the PS brand is some of the last Sony products that have any reason to be in danger.

But Sony as a whole is in danger. Even if the PS brand is profitable (at the moment) doesn't mean that Sony couldn't go bankrupt.

They still made several hundred million dollar losses with the PS3. Could they make a similar investment (billions) with the PS4 ? Surely not.

Who cares....?

Judging from your username, you should!

This has implications for when Sony will release the PS4 and the support and specs it'll have.

Anyway, I think now's a great time to buy stock. Unlike Panasonic and Sharp (who are DOOMED!) Sony has their fingers in many pies; they just need to cut off some dead weight which is ruining their profitability (like their TV business)

Looks like no high end graphics for the PS4. Sony fans better learn to deal with that now, rather than later. Hopefully, Sony can recover from this.

Estelle and Adol... best characters ever! XD

Now that all this junk status stuff has already happened, let's see what Sony does over the next few years to get itself upright again. What happened has happened. What's more important is how Sony responds to these circumstances.

so it sounds like they can't afford a PS4 launch to me but i suspect comapnies just keep on going til someone turns the lights out,

i wonder if they will get out of the hardware business, hard to see them dropping phones/cameras/console but TV's & Laptops,i am not sure how their laptops sell

why haven't they dropped their TV business before now?it's been so long at a loss, they must still BELIEVE

Sony CAN afford a PS4 launch, but they will have to play it smart...

Instead of a 600 dollar ultra super powerful machine selling at a loss, they can go with a 400 dollar powerful enough machine selling at cost or even with a small profit.

Instead of creating their own complex architecture with a custom CPU, they can go more for out of the box parts.

Instead of focusing on hardware, they can work on better, faster and easier to use development tools

The thing is that most of the Sony fans WANT that Ultra Super Powerful machine, with complex and unique architecture, instead of something less powerful, so they either convince their buyers that they bought the not so powerful machine, or introduce something different to disrupt the market (like the Wii did)

well yes they need to sell at a profit, you'd think that was a given for sony execs,

the generalising of all sony fans is not true though with the ultra super powerful jibes and it gets a bit tiring, the PS2 was the weakest of it's gen

i think sony obviously called it wrong with the PS3 and it's costs but they did talk at the time of a multimedia machine in the lounge connected which is what consoles are now,if they will survive the console wars they need to have a paid sub and offer good gaming experiences, movies, soe, music, home social stuff, vita across the PSN they'd keep me as a customer anyway,i aslo want more big co-op rpg's/sci-fi/mmo type expereinces for me in the future from my console

obvioulsy this can only happen if they get their core business/debts sorted out and start deciding what they actually want to make a profti at

PS4 released last of 8th gen, probably in Q3-Q4 2014, is now more likely. This way they'll be able to offer a powerful console at $399 entry-level model launch price without losing money.

Perhaps that could be a good thing.

They were drunken on success and profits after the PS2 generation (and the early years of the PSP). It was that mindset that led them to create an $800 console and sell it at a $200 loss, which still made it prohibitively expensive.

They will be forced to be more careful this time around.

I think that Kaz is up to the task. Hopefully I am not wrong because I want a PS4, many first party games and lots of 3rd party support.
