When did I bash Nintendo?.. i didn't. I have stated God know how many times I want a 3DSxl. What the hell is wrong with you? Read what people wrote before you comment in future.

For example, make sure the same criteria apply when reviewing 3DS games as when reviewing Vita games. Even if you excuse last-gen mediocrity and visual lacklustery for one system because you have such fond memories of playing virtually the same games a decade ago, surely you can still appreciate the advanced and forward looking approach in the other system? However, please realise that your professional opinions do have an influence on the success of the system. I’m sure you know how it all works. Do you really want to live in a world where handheld gamers can only choose between rehashes of Mario games and Angry Birds? There you go, he is very dismissive of the 3DS. This is material that qualifies as bannable offense on these forums, because it's pretty much standard trolling to label Nintendo hardware as "last gen" and reducing Nintendo's software output to "Mario rehashes". The world isn't going to end, if the Vita fails. Handheld gaming will continue to be varied with or without Sony. As for the rest of your post which I deleted, I know of the principle of "truth through repetition". Nintendo has been brandmarked with countless stereotypes over the years. However, Nintendo has also shown that it's possible to succeed despite all the lies that are flying around, so the gaming media's influence isn't really significant. |
Mediocrity refers to being ordinary, unoriginal, common place.
Lets be honest with ourselves here, what he states, while sounding kind of harsh, is totally true. Mario is on itteration what.....24? not including the blatent spin offs. How many re-releases and slight tweaks have there been?Far too many to count. Zelda/Metroid are no where near as bad but Nintendo has a tendency to take a game that was good and run with it forever. Need I say more than Pokemon? The series has made less than incremental improvements since it started and has put out almost just as many games as Mario, in half the time, partly due to the fact they always release in TWO's(then the mega release shortly after). Someone earlier in this thread(or another, can't remember) was telling me that although LBP PSVita is quoted multiple times as "best in the series", it is currently the lowest rated, they said that made sense because a series loses luster after a few entries and unless you do something COMPLETELY radical points will decrease little by little. Well when I heard this I could not help but think of Mario and the bajilion almost identical entries and then say to myself "WHAT?!".
Are these games still fun?Yes, but doesn't change the fact the formula barely ever changes outside of predictable additions.

Mediocrity does not mean normal/ordinary, it means unacceptable/unsatisfactory.
Also, despite there being about a dozen ore Mario titles, the original game, Mario 3, Mario 64, and Mario Galaxy represent landmarks in videogame innovation and excellence. It is why the series is so highly regarded and successful.
I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

If we count all Super Mario Bros. and Super Mario Land games, then NSMB2 is iteration #9 overall and the fourth on handhelds. Pokémon has hit generation 5 with Black/White, so if you want to count Yellow and others separately (although you shouldn't with the exception of Black/White 2), it would amount to ten games. NSMB2's Metascore is below 80, so the game got treated just as harsh, maybe even harsher, than LBP Vita. What he stated is true, provided we ignore reality. But should we? |
Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario Land, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2:6 Golden Coins, Super Mario World 2:Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, New Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros 2, soon to have Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario bros WiiU
I count 17 Marios, not including the spin-offs.
I count 20 Pokemon games according to this list...

And Media and Critics are very important to the survival of merchandise. There is a few well known tricks in advertising and market warfare. Its the same tactic politicians and the government use on the regular to sway opinion. If you say something enough people start to believe it. Once they do, its hard to get it out of their heads. Its a tactic that has been used time and time again and proves quite effective. If it isn't stomped out immediately it stands a chance of becoming a self fullfilling prophecy. AKA...
|
How are half of those self-fulfilling prophecies? The PS3 has games, the 3DS is not doomed, and there are still profitable exclusives.
You make it sound like critics owe it to Sony to try to help sell their system or something. They don't.

Man, your conclusions are staggering. Now, seriously. Shut the fuck up and play some Indie games! Braid, Cave Story, Fez, Flower, Journey, Limbo, Sound Shapes, Super Meat Boy, World of Goo. You're missing a lot... |
Frankly, I'd say none of those games are good. Indie games ARE generally lower quality than their bigger brothers and frequently get free passes simply for being Indie or for having unconventional visual styles. If any of those games were put out by a major dev they wouldn't have gotten half the acclaim, because the bar is higher for non-Indie games.

There, I helped you out. You set the conditions and said "no blatant spinoffs". NSMB2 is #9 on the list, the fourth on a handheld, just like I said. On a sidenote, Super Mario 3D Land was already released in November 2011. Oh, and you are missing a spinoff I expected to on your list as well: Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land. As for Pokémon, you get 20 games if you count each version as a separate game and include the remakes. But, for example, Red and Blue are the same game aside from about 15 Pokémon that are exclusive to only one of the two versions. But maps, dungeons, puzzles etc. are otherwise identical. Yellow is largely the same game as well; it's not a sequel, but rather a special edition of Red/Blue. The same applies to the Gold/Silver and Crystal combo. Here's a breakdown: 5 mainline games: Red/Blue, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire, Diamond/Pearl, Black/White EDIT: Crossing out didn't work. The Mario spinoffs are: Mario Bros. (well, more of a separate game actually), Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy 1+2, Super Mario 3D Land. |
For one Mario series of games I named are all in a continuous series where none of them are treated as spin offs, according to Wiki. Those are the mainline series and they put the true spinoffs like Mario Kart seperate. For example, Mario Kart 7 is on the 3DS and 8 will probably be on WiiU, the console doesn't depict their position in the series. Not to mention they are all based on the same rudimentary platforming mechanics.Same goes for Pokemon. I do not count them as groups because they actaully expect people to buy each iteration, and they do. Just because all the imagine games come out at the same time really doesn't make them less of a series. Regardless, the number is astronomical in comparison to most other series.
Main point being, he was right to call it mediocre because so many games in the same line with similar playstyles makes them nothing new.

1) Tell ioi that he's tracking them wrong then.
2) I can't take this argument seriously from a guy with the word Cloud in his username and a Final Fantasy Versus XIII cover in his sig.

That's still favorable for the PSV, because the games aren't close in quality. |
You're right. Sound Shapes is 10 times better

| Jumpin said: The 3DS is a system filled with games built from the ground up for the system. The Vita is full of junior versions of home console games that just aren't that good. This is why people are not satisfied with it. |
Yeah, no. Just no. Next time you're gonna bash the system either try some games first or do some research and use facts. This is simply inaccurate.
