The link in question was brought up in relation to our discussion about who 3DS and Vita should/are being compared to. The article shows an obvious comparison between the two, with one being the better, yet the scores of both do not reflect that. By reading the review we see they did exactly what Baramu speaks of in the OP.

"His opinion of the 3DS is disgusting"

What opinion? I fail to see where he directly mentions 3DS for anything other than for contrast sake of what is being done to VIta. Never in a bad light does he bring it up. Did I miss some sort of subliminal message that screams "I HATE NINTENDORKS" or something or is my dislexia acting up again?

(...)

For example, make sure the same criteria apply when reviewing 3DS games as when reviewing Vita games. Even if you excuse last-gen mediocrity and visual lacklustery for one system because you have such fond memories of playing virtually the same games a decade ago, surely you can still appreciate the advanced and forward looking approach in the other system?

However, please realise that your professional opinions do have an influence on the success of the system. I’m sure you know how it all works. Do you really want to live in a world where handheld gamers can only choose between rehashes of Mario games and Angry Birds?

There you go, he is very dismissive of the 3DS. This is material that qualifies as bannable offense on these forums, because it's pretty much standard trolling to label Nintendo hardware as "last gen" and reducing Nintendo's software output to "Mario rehashes". The world isn't going to end, if the Vita fails. Handheld gaming will continue to be varied with or without Sony.

As for the rest of your post which I deleted, I know of the principle of "truth through repetition". Nintendo has been brandmarked with countless stereotypes over the years. However, Nintendo has also shown that it's possible to succeed despite all the lies that are flying around, so the gaming media's influence isn't really significant.

Mediocrity refers to being ordinary, unoriginal, common place.

Lets be honest with ourselves here, what he states, while sounding kind of harsh, is totally true. Mario is on itteration what.....24? not including the blatent spin offs. How many re-releases and slight tweaks have there been?Far too many to count. Zelda/Metroid are no where near as bad but Nintendo has a tendency to take a game that was good and run with it forever. Need I say more than Pokemon? The series has made less than incremental improvements since it started and has put out almost just as many games as Mario, in half the time, partly due to the fact they always release in TWO's(then the mega release shortly after).  Someone earlier in this thread(or another, can't remember) was telling me that although LBP PSVita is quoted multiple times as "best in the series", it is currently the lowest rated, they said that made sense because a series loses luster after a few entries and unless you do something COMPLETELY radical points will decrease little by little. Well when I heard this I could not help but think of Mario and the bajilion almost identical entries and then say to myself "WHAT?!".

Are these games still fun?Yes, but doesn't change the fact the formula barely ever changes outside of predictable additions.

Mediocrity does not mean normal/ordinary, it means unacceptable/unsatisfactory.

Also, despite there being about a dozen ore Mario titles, the original game, Mario 3, Mario 64, and Mario Galaxy represent landmarks in videogame innovation and excellence. It is why the series is so highly regarded and successful.
