Xbox live is great service. Pacman suggested they should charge more for it next gen. Maybe $100. I'd say go $150 at least. It would be so premium that only cool people will be allowed in.

That makes no sense, thats like saying don't buy an Xbox 360. LOL There is no choice in the matter with Microsoft.

Hmm... why does he play Xbox if close to everything is better on PC, he doesn't pay for Live, doesn't play casual games/hates them, hates Kinect... wow, sucks to be him...

not sure if this is what he means, but on xboxlive if a cheater is real bad they will get banned regardless of what game (thats where the unified online comes in handy) and if severe enough even their console can be banned. Once banned they would have to pay for a new live account (that costs money) so it i a better dterent than on pc where all that will happen is you get kicked from a game or maybe a ip ban. and there is no cost to create a new account so there is no financial penalty for cheating.

Really I highly doubt it for the most part everything Pachter said was pretty much valid and nowhere near the crazy stuff he said in the past.
As an owner of all consoles and a gaming PC, I believe Xbox Live Gold is an absolute ripoff and a joke service that people are fooled into thinking requires pay for, and I am not going to give Microsoft any cash until the day they actually provide something worth paying for.
From what I've seen, dick moves by publishers to gain more and more money has been pushing the traditional gamers away from the industry - and I'm not the only one in the industry who sees the trend.
EDIT: Are gamers some amazing species of humans who are the only ones to feel "entitlement"? Or... is the video game industry one of the few industries that is constantly pushing at and annoying its consumer base? No, you're right, gamers must be a special species of humans who are magically different from everyone else. =)

MS doesn't hide the fact that they charge for gold. The choice to pay for live shouild be made before the console is bought. People who dont want to pay for it should buy a ps3 or wii or pc. For those do not care and that like the 360 the 360 is their choice than. Ms is not forcing people into anything. its all about choice.

PSN has true choice, Do you like the games? Ok buy the swystem. Do you want perks or just normal online? Everything else you pay for. Microsoft has an ultimatum, where you must pay them then pay for everything else.

given the choices though, more people seem to like the MS approach. Dont know what else to tell you. If you dont like how ms does business you dont have to support them. If you happen to like their games though you do have to things their way. I will not be to suprised if Sony charge for online next gen too. As far as i know right now they stiff the devs for the bill and lose money on psn.

Its not about what they like, its more about what they've become accustomed to. People accept things as the way it is. Next gen everything can change if Sony makes PSN known to early adopters of the PS4 when they go head to head with the 720. They will be virtually identical. Next E3 Sony and Microsoft will be showing off their next consoles for sure. The dev kits were leaked and Activision spilled the beans.
