People always forget that Nintendo had GBA keeping fans happy while GameCube was disgracing the company. Wii was really the first home console since SNES that really felt like a proper home console.

What do you mean by that?

N64 used cartridges, and had games with very muddy graphics, the controller analog sticks wore out and broke frequently. There were also very few games released for the console, and they were extremely expensive - usually double the cost of Playstation games.
Gamecube - Rather than making an inventive or innovative console as they have with all of their other consoles, Gamecube was a PS2 made for kids - the controller with its big awkward green face button even looked like a toy for toddlers. It was an extraordinarily disappointing move from Nintendo to go in this direction. In addition, Nintendo released no standout games for this console outside of Metroid, which was much more interesting to Turok fans than actual Metroid fans.
