Forums - General - 'Apple-like' lines for Microsofts new tablet

I had a great idea this morning. I figured I’d head to the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale around 10am, waltz in, buy a MicrosoftSurface, and then be out in 10 minutes. I assumed the store would be empty. I mean, come on, this is a Microsoft tablet we’re talking about, and who goes to the Microsoft Store anyway?

I was completely wrong. Microsoft’s newtablet, the Surface RT, may not do everything an iPad can, but it’s drawing some pretty big lines to Microsoft retail stores across the country for its launch this morning.

Once I got to the Microsoft Store I was shocked to see a line of about 125 people waiting to buy the Surface and was told it’d be a two hour wait before I could get in. The story is the same at other Microsoft Stores across the country with people lining up to purchase Microsoft’s hyped tablet that’s supposed to compete with the iPad.

The line at the Seattle stores have been reported to be the largest, but many people in those lines are associated with Microsoft. Microsoft isn’t used to dealing with long launch lines though. A lot of people on Twitter have complained that it’s taking Microsoft retail employees an hour to to get 15 people or so through the line. Appleusually churns through about one hundred or so customers on launch day every hour.

Wow, MS really went after the whole apple design, looking at that storefront.

They probably paid them, just like those Japanese people with 360 and/or Kinect. Remember ?

I can't wait to see the price of this bad boy in Brazil.

The lines will be astronomically... low, because it'll cost an arm and a leg.

OT: Great for MS. I have an Ipad (the first one!) and this is simply the only tablet that makes me die to substitute it.

doesn't apple have a patent on these lines?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

I think this will do OK in the US and nowhere else. I imagine the US is being blitzed by Win8 marketing as well. It's got the tech but no software, much like certain video game consoles.

"Microsoft’s newtablet, the Surface RT, may not do everything an iPad can,(...)"

But it CAN do a lot that the iPad doesn't even dream of doing (or maybe it's only the Pro version coming out in a few months that blows it out of the water - sorta confused on this issue).

I'm keeping a keen eye on the Pro version.... I might get it.

Yeah, that's Surface Pro.

OT:

SHEEP!!!!

Seriously though, I want a surface myself! Hopefully the Pro version will get priced competitively.

MS got a lot of experience dealing with Halo midnight launches, they can handle this no sweat :)

Passive agressive shot at the 360?

Because 360 has more 70-79, 80-89, and 90+ games on metacritic then PS3, not sure about the Wii.  Just saying.
