Forums - Sony Discussion - Can All Stars sell MILLIONS of copies?

Tagged games:

No. The game is not very good judging by the beta (imho) and the characters are not very appealing.

edit, did not take into consideration bundles. If they bundle the **** out of it on PS3/Vita then it could hit 2-3 million.

Response to stuff

Yeah my numbers are grossly inflated and quite frankly random. The 9 reasons are all things that will contribute to sales, just not that much. However I would like to respond to two of the things you said.

6. No it really is getting almost universal appraisal. Some don't like it, some hate it, but a vast majority find the combat and super system stellar. This is a hard point to prove/ disprove though.

8. I should have explained better, I'm sorry. The game does not nerf in real time during a match. What is happening is Superbot looks at all the data and determines who the best players are online and who they are playing as. They can see how many supers and kills are achieved and then say on average character a kills 50 times a match while character b kills 5 times a match. They nerf character a and release an update that automatically gets installed when an online match is started (or something like that). Basically tiers are calculated and then ever so slightly the characters are adjusted to balance out the system. There is also a combo ending code that makes infinite combos impossible so a metaknight type character can't exist.

6.  That's not the impression I've been getting.  Here are some things I've seen.

Not everyone is loving it, and I've seen few people are calling it stellar.  The impressions I've seen range between mildly negative or mildly positive, with some more extreme people.

8.  Ok, that makes more sense but here's a couple of points to that.

a) Knowing a character is broken doesn't necessarily make fixing it easy.  Patches take time, and even with patches, it can be tough to balance fighters.

b) A constantly shifting metagame isn't necessarily good for a fighting community.  When there are huge balance issues, they need to be fixed, but constant changes make it hard for a metagame to develop.

c) Having a combo ending system would not do anything to prevent a Metaknight like character.  Metaknight does not have any infinite combos or anything of the sort.  What makes him good is a combination of range, mobility options, and speed.

Never use YouTube view counts as a way to estimate how well a game will perform. For example; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN0CiFs3U9I and it came out unnoticed and has already forgotten.

If this game is generally accepted as good by the fans and word of mouth is good and the game is as MASSIVELY bundled as Uncharted 3 has been since its launch then I expect 3-4 million sales. If the game is merely recieved as 'OK' and the word of mouth isn't good and the game is bundled massively for just the xmas holidays season then 1-2 million.

I'm just gong to go ahead and guess that it'll do roughly 2.5 million lifetime, a great start for what will become one of Sony's most popular franchises.

The original trailer and the actual game of "I am Alive" have a very different "looks".  I would say that was the main reason behind the low interest.  But with the youtube add of PSASBR, I would say that the trailer resumes quite well the essence of the game......I think XD.

yes it will.. I'd sat somewhere between 1.5-1.8 mil across the PSV/PS3 then will be heavily bundled so I'd say 4m if it happens

Yep.. it should sell millions of copies..

it'll probably easily hit 2-3 million without bundles..

I have no desire to argue reviews but those are filled with failure. Play the game for more than just a few matches and you'll realize how stupid their complaints with fighting are. It is problematic because the beta has only a quick tutorial so many people are calling it quits before understanding how to play. Like for example in one video review I watched they didn't know you can be killed while preforming a super. Reviewers mostly suck at their job lol

I predict 2.5 million!

You know those 5.5million views of the Youtube and counts the ads right? When you load a different video and the ad loads, it counts as a view....

Anyway I think it will reach 1million easily. How far it goes past that depends on reviews and DLC.

0.7 million (North America) + 0.3 million (Japan) + 1.4 million (Europe) + 0.5 million (other regions) = 2.9 million lifetime
