Forums - Nintendo - Will the WiiU have the option for full install for all retail games?

They haven't said anything to that effect. Even the 360, which does let you install games, still requires you to insert the disc as a manner of DRM. Otherwise, nothing would stop one person from making free copies of the game for 20, 50, or 500 or their closest friends.

However, Nintendo has stated that all of their first-party games will be available as digital downloads, so you could go that route if you wanted.

What I'd love to see them do (though I doubt it will happen) is what movies have been doing for a while now. Buy the physical copy and you also get a code to download the digital version. They're taking baby steps toward this by offering download codes of their games at retailers, but these don't come with a physical copy.

On the other hand, I'd like to know if Wii games are playable on the Gamepad.
For games using the wiimote and nunchuk it doesn't make much sense despite the GP having a sensor bar, but for games that support classic controller it would be nice to play them using just the GP.

The likes of Xenoblade, Last Story and 007 Goldeneye could be cool on the small screen.

Oh, I wasn't aware there even was a limit. But if it's 3 TB's, that means you can store up to 1500 WiiU games digitally. Have fun playing all those games . ;)

With many consumers sitting there with 8GB of space I doubt they would bother, install 2 big games and then it's full.

Yea that is true, It can read discs substantially faster than the current gen, but with such a small hardrive the inability to do installs in the long run could be a potential downside.

i'm not aware of any ps3 game that allows a full game install from a disc.  there are games with pretty large installs but i don't think it's the full game...and if it is the full game it doesn't really matter because yes, the disc is required.  if you guy the game digitally then yeah, you obviously don't need a disc.  Digital versions can be downloaded to 3 systems now (down from 5 previously).

But like you and other have stated.. obviously this feature can't exist or game sales would be killed.

It's a downside when potential consumers can't be bothered to upgrade their storage via the options given to them. They still have the option to go out and buy another system with four times more storage if they are that lazy.

That's assuming a full wii u game is only 2 gb, it's more likely they'll be 4 - 6 gb, about 750 - 500 full digital games. Even so, I'm not planning on going for such a big collection, about 200 in reality! You need to accommodate for dlc, add on content etc. Didn't want to have to buy a larger drive years from now when I run out, so at least I know now I have the largest drive supported.
