Forums - Nintendo - Darksiders 2 Wii U Edition May Be Worth Waiting For

I played a WiiU today, ZombiU.

I am now convinced the gamepad adds nothing in a way of good gameplay experience, looking between the two screens is just disjointing and the experience doesn't feel like it benefits really, no more than doing it on the TV screen could have..

I will dare to say the control pad feels like the worst designed first party controller since the Dreamcast. Screw gaming on that, no wonder they made the XBox-like controller as an option.

I'm a bit concerned about this as well. The dual screen thing worked fine on the DS, though then again the screens were mere centimeters apart, and you don't have to look up and down from screen to screen.

I don't really plan on looking down at my controller too much though. My main expectations in terms of functionality is to use as a quick glance for a map screen or item screen where I can quickly tap the item I want to use. I think for that purpose it'll work quite well. I don't really plan on using for long periods of time like Zombi U seems to require, and I don't think most games will require you to look down at the touchscreen too much anyway. To me the controller is a nice little feature, but it's more of an afterthought. I don't expect it to be the focus of the console, much like the dual screen/touch screen funcionality wasn't a main focus for most DS games. It's just a neat little add on that could make things (like maps and item screens) more convenient.

Though, I also like the idea of switching your entire game to the gamepad while the TV can be used by someone else, and I can see myself doing that a lot. The thought of playing the next Zelda game kicking back on my couch while my family watches TV in the same room is pretty cool actually. I will probably use it more for that functionality more than what Nintendo is hyping as "asymetrical gameplay"

You convinced yourself of that before you ever even thought about touching the console, and you mean the 3rd classic controller revision that makes its layout more like the Upad. That core controller design has been around for 2 decades now since Nintendo created it.

Not that I see what any of this has to do with Darksiders 2...

The title of the thread and entire article is pretty misleading/pointless.  If someone likes Darksiders is no reason to wait for a WiiU release, it is not going to be better in any way, so not worth waiting for.

Please don't try and tell me what I convince myself of and when either.  I queued for 30 minutes to get on a machine, I don't do that for something I already decided I will not enjoy or gain anything from.

The title means that the "Wii U version of this game is worth waiting for," not that "it is worth getting a Wii U for this."

You say that based on your experience with one game?  That's a very unprofessional way of judging something.  Should I judge, let's say, a back massager based on one of multiple settings it has?  That's just ridiculous.

Not all games using the gamepad makes you look back and forth from the gamepad continuously.  Some games would probably use it as more of a peripheral, but perhaps a more unique one.  This comment you made really doesn't relate much to what this thread was made for, though.  Especially since you brought up ZombiU when this is about Darksiders 2.

...but as I just pointed out, it is not worth waiting for.

Subjective, and debatable. The Wii U version has an extra 5-hours to the main story.

What he's saying is, if someone wanted to buy Darksiders 2, why wait for the Wii U version (Which would mean having to shell out for a Wii U anyway), when they can just get it on the console they already own? (I'd rather do that anyway for continuity sake), it's not worth waiting for, just for a few silly features that take your eyes away from the action. I've not played the game yet (Wasn't a huge fan of the first, but this does seem better), but I'm assuming that doing this could get you killed in certain situations, or something like that anyway.

Why would you change the gear or look at the map in the middle of combat? This feature is made of to avoid constant pausing during the game, I played this game for the PC and believe me that it was annoying to pause the game every time you wanted to change your gear (specially since their is WAY to many weapons and armors), it's not meant to be used in the middle of combat (if you want to do that I guess you can change it while pausing the game normally). This is a welcome feature that I really like and will probably pick it up because I really like Darksiders 2 and haven't played the DLC yet.

You probably felt that way because ZombiU force you to look at the screen constantly, mostly to keep you in a "real" survivor horror situation (looking at your backpack and be careful that there may be zombies in the area), so it's part of the experience and other games will used the touch screen in different ways.

Do played other games or only ZombiU?

Were you able to circle strafe? I know that was one of your complaints against the wii-mote ir setup for first person shooters on the wii. You seem to really enjoy proper circle straffing.

You dismissed an entire console and it library as well as its controller based on a short experience with one game followed by insulting the controller that wasn't even revelent to that event or this thread. That has prescripted agenda written all over it.

There is not a shred of open mindesness or understanding present in those statements. There is only one logical conclusion that can be reached by these facts.

Nope. That certainly isn't it.
