Forums - Nintendo - Wii U Game Pad Battery Life is 3-5 Hours (No USB Charging, AC Cord Only)

I was always under the impression that it was charged via USB, I definitely read months ago about this. Nintendo must've changed this just recently. That's dissapointing as I already have 3 extension jacks that will be full when I plug the Wii U AC adapter into the last plug! :-S 3-5 hours is just ok, as I have a couple of 1/2 hour breaks during my evenings play session so it can get a little extra charge then and I would normally be sat in front of my t.v so it can charge whilst I'm using it anyway.

Since they use the slow charge method there will be USB chargers eventually from third and maybe first party. The USB charger that you are thinking of is for the development kits, but those where in all likely hood hard wired.

can you still play while it's being charged??

The answer is more than likely yes. Since you can play the 3DS while it is charging there is no reason Nintendo will not allow you to play while charging with the game pad.

The 2.5 hour charge time is ridiculous!

I wouldn't see why not.

No USB play-n-charge kit is unacceptable, Nintendo.. especially with the low battery life and high ratio of charge time to battery life.... sigh...

I hope you can plug-n-play with an AC adapter, at least.

usb play-n-charge is useless unless you like sitting within a meter away from your console, meaning if you have a 40inch TV or bigger you are too damn close.

What makes you think usb play-n-charge has to be within a meter?

2 meters.

EDIT: And look.. over 3 meters.. http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-5-Pin-Mini-Cable/dp/B00112BA78/ref=pd_cp_vg_0

That's awesome. It is good mechanism to tell gamers than they should not game more than 3-5 hours in one sitting. Go take a walk, post on vgchartz, have a snack etc. Than come back and play. I am liking this console more and more now.

Ah, c de la merde. But then again what do you expect, the console is being sold WITH the controller for 300$, so you get what you pay for boys.

I'm sorry, but this is just awful... I tend to game for 6+ hours at a time, so this wouldn't get me through one sitting, and a 2.5 hour charge time for that? No thankyou!

oh so you where interested in the WiiU before you found out about this then?

*trollface*

why would I buy an extra cable? How does an AC adapter differ so much? You plug it into the power point instead of your console. no biggie.

I bet Nintendos logic behind it was not to conenct to the WiiU as people may get to excited and pull the wiiu off the shelf when panning aroudn the room, remember hd tvs plus wii remotes initially?

Also the one thing is how we currently do not know if the ac adapter has a micro usb end? if it does, surely you can purchase your own USB cable and connect it to the WiiU to charge.

The idea i was trying to convey is that Nintendo should have included a USB charger cable instead of an AC one, or at least have the option to buy a USB charger cable so I could play the Wii U while the controller was charging.

The fact that it's a motion controller is a good point, it might be a bit of a hassle playing while plugged if one pulls the cord too hard, but that's just more of a reason to make the cord longer!

AC makes a difference because I don't have any extra AC ports near my setup, and the AC ports are also farther away from my sitting position than the Wii U would be. If we can purchase our own USB cables and play-n-charge with the tablet, I'm fine. I felt like the OP was basically saying we can't.
