There goes my 12 hour gaming marathons with Nintendo Land...

This is critical for Nintendo to release a higher mA battery (or from a third party at least). I mean really guys don't be so naive. Just because an electronic has tens of hours battery life doesn't mean people will be consuming all thoes hours in one sitting.

Most (normal) people don't talk on a cell, or game on a handeld for 10-25 hours straight. An exceptionaly long battery life is just there to keep us from having to recharge the damn thing often. Recharging a battery constantly does drain its longevity.

can you play while it's charging?

The only reason most batteries take this long to charge is the simple fact of ensuring the battery lasts a long time. What people do not realise is fast charge ruins batteries quicker. Ontop of that the higher the current to charge the more heat is produced whilst charging. Meaning your other components would probably melt around the battery if you fast charged lol.

Yeah rechargeable batteries work by either stipping an elctron off the negitve pole/plate and returning it to the chemical solution, each time some of the chemical refuses to accept the electron which affects the life of the battery, fast charging ruins more of the chemical thus greatly shortening the batteries life. The choice of the size of the battery was done by Nintendo and it would seem to be a chooice of the wieght of the controller and the durablity of the battery. Its a balencing act.

Thanks for explaining that, to both of you. I didn't know the side effects of rapid charge stations and makes sense for Nintendo to go this route, I wouldn't be too happy to find that 2 years after buying it, my expensive Gamepad needs a new battery because the one it has is damaged.

But even then a max of only 5 hours of play is short, even for a pad with a screen on it.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Who the hell plays more then 5 hours at once?

Will be an inconvenience , but people will have to adapt. Still sucks though, especially no usb charging. Not everyone has lots of spare plug sockets around, whch means buying an extension cable.

Sucks.
So it's not like PS3 where it's easy to play & charge?

True

What? Makes no sense. You can play and charge. (is there anything that is hard to play n charge?)

But tbh  its a bit fail when you see how a 360 controller lasts for around 50 hours with a set of batteries...   They have so much space in the WiiU gamepad and its not even rendering stuff itself.  It has a smaller screen than my lenovo tablet which plays 8hours of 1080p h264 content before running low on batteries while alot of background processes are running and wireless is still active etc. The lenovo tablet has a 7" multitouch sceen with 1024x600 and only cost me 120 euros.....    Nintendo always seems to save money on the wrong parts.

its expected with that big ass controller that has a screen on it.

Major suckage really... Where I sit in my couch when I play I don't have access to an AC out put... And I'm sitting 2-2.5 meters from the TV, so I hope that wire is 3m long!!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

I don't care.

These estimates are mostly on the safe side too, it is said the 3DS also does 3-5 hours (which is already a wide estimate), but I get 5 out of it more often than not and usually even longer.
