Forums - Nintendo - Bethesda wary of Wii U: ‘it doesn’t support our games’

So similar graphical capabilities and more RAM = doesn't support their games.

XBox360 with less RAM = Supports their games.

Technically, I wonder if not having a harddrive could fit into what is being talked about.  Bethesda pushes DLC, and the WiiU is apparently going with Flashram on the inside, rather than a harddrive.

With user addable USB hdd support.  Most all WiiU will end up with an HDD.  I've already got a HDD ready and waiting for mine.  I don't think lack of storage is holding any developer back.

Again, we don't know this.  The WiiU is new hardware and the TES engine was not built for that hardware.  Getting something running on different hardware isn't a huge deal, getting it running well and tested is.

If they were able to make an engine run on the PS3 and the 360, they could definitely do the same for the WiiU. It certainly doesn't agree with the arguments the interviewee made in OP (segmenting an audience, not powerful enough, moving target, ...), which were all quite obviously excuses for not wanting to work on the WiiU. The advantages of reaching the audience of a new console far outweigh everything he mentioned, without even losing anything previously obtained (the HD twins userbase).

Nintendo gamers don't care about Bethesda games and Bethesda doesn't care about Nintendo consoles.

I don't see a problem then. Everybody seems to be satisfied.

It's honestly one of those chicken or the egg problems, both sides are pretty valid.

Personally, while I would love to see more awesome games on my Nintendo consoles I side with the publishers on this one.  Like I said, making even a modest budget game is a massive risk with little reward.  You want to do everything possible to mitigate that risk.  If that means not developing for a console that likely will not sell well, you don't develop for it.

The multiplatting mitigates the risk on its own. Remember: it took a team of a few guys (under 10) from Vigil something like 5 weeks to get a build of Darksiders II running on Wii U. With that comparatively tiny amount of man-hours they just tacked on at least (lowball estimate) another 200,000 sales for the game, or another 10 million in revenue (less overhead and publisher/retailer cut and all, but still, that makes up for the porting effort by a huge factor)

They're creating *more* risk for themselves by *not* putting it on Wii U

Different engines, different problems (Bethesda is great example of that idea).  We also don't know how well Darksiders II works on WiiU.  There's a *huge* difference between running and running well.  Again, thinking of Bethesda, Skyrim runs on the PS3 and I'm sure even Dawnguard runs on the PS3, it just doesn't really run at an acceptable quality level.  It will take a lot more effort to work that problem out.

It might have only taken 10 guys 5 weeks to get the game to work, but it would take more time and more staff (QA) to verify that it's shipping quality and pass TRC requirements.

Wii U ports cost under $1.3 million for Ubisoft

i don’t understand them, is like we are asking for exclusive games, in that scenario sureee wait and see, but how much risk is including wii u in a multiplatform project??
Maybe their games on wii u won’t sell millions, but they will sell.
i was one of those who bought a 360 because the lack of wii games, but if the wii u have third party games, there is no reason to get me a new console

Some are reading too much into these statements and clearly title is wrong.

They said Wii didn't support their games and that they have no idea about Wii U because they clearly haven't gotten any dev kits.

They are satisfied with the large and existing userbase in PS360 and don't feel hindered by that technology. With that they are taking a wait and see approach to Wii U to see its userbase grow and its console finalize.

Really, this is a company without large coffers of cash laying around and therefore they are taking the safe approach. It isn't a slam against Nintendo or the Wii U or its technology. Its just a smaller company being cautious.

That story is horse shit, twisting his words.

He said Wii doesn't fit (which it doesnt) and that WiiU is to be decided.

Whats the problem?

And it is VG 24/7 doing the twisting -- not the OP.

I am not sure which is worse, developers distain for Nintendo platforms or video game "jounralists" disdain for accurate reporting.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

Think of it this way: Wii U is going to have a lot of structural similarities to the 360, and yet a broader tool set. TES engine isn't the problem.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

he says the wii-u is tba, meaning your post means you think the wii can at all compete with xbox, or you meant wii-u which he clearly says they don't know yet.

also iirc the wii-u has a weak CPU, which bethesda games use a lot of. so a weak cpu = no skyrim on wii-u
