"There's a lot of stuff going on" lol.
Quite an astute technical analysis there. Look at all the purdy colors.
Obviously the 360/PS3 cannot handle a crumbling road with a bunch of low poly characters running around.

What is suppose to be so great about that? Its just a big character with some bump mapped texturing. There is hardly anything going on at all, at least compared to P-100. Do you not see all of the detail on those buildings? Th ewindows? The objects on the roofs? Then with 20 characters fluidly jumping around. the dust particles, the omnipresent environmental destruction and all at 60 FPS. I'm sorry but GOW3 doesn't come close on a technical level. |
But P-100 is just a bunch of low polygon squares with the most basic of textures and some nice specular lighting lol
Its still looks great, I think the 2 games contrast each other perfectly.
I have a lot of issues with posts in this topic but I will address those which come to my mind as the strongest.
I saw a poster say Nintendo has a history of releasing underpowered consoles. Consoles? As in, more than one? Lets run this back real fast. Gamecube was underpowered? No. Nintendo 64 was underpowered? No. SNES was underpowered? No. NES was underpowered? No. Game Boy was underpowered (relative since there was no hand held market)? No. Game Boy Advance was underpowered? No. DS was underpowered? No. 3DS is underpowered? No.
Okay, so we have a history of one console being underpowered. Now, one may try to say DS and 3DS are not as powerful as PSP and Vita respectively but I am not asking about most powerful, I am asking about UNDERPOWERED, which nobody could argue would be true of either console. Your talk of Nintendo's history is very off and out of touch with reality.
Second, I do see a lot of backhanded talk when it comes to WiiU. Every time I see a topic that says WiiU has more power or more to offer, or is a stronger console, I see comments of, "well it should be more powerful than a 6/7 year old console" as if you are not the people saying it is not. It is you, whom articles like this are directed at and it is you who try to deflect this positive information into negative information after your initial negative claims are put on blast. We fans of the console already know it is more powerful than the current generation, we are not trying to defend WiiU, we are trying to show the people that give untruthful opinions (as facts) thee error of their ways. It is simple, we are not the doubters, and therefore, this is not a reassurance for us. You are the doubters and therefore, this should help paint a more concrete picture for you what the system will be capable of. This way, the lies and slander can be slowed down (or hell, maybe even stopped).
As far as this news goes, to me it is not news at all. There is nothing here that truly evokes me. I do not post very often, especially when it comes to news about WiiU but when I see some people trying to take positive and informative news and spin it, I feel someone must call them out. If you honestly believe WiiU will be weaker than the current generation of consoles, make a thread now, and come back to it later if you are correct. Stop trying to pass off your opinion as fact and when your opinion comes into jepordy, do not be afraid to own that fact. I am tired of people acting like Nintendo has done something so wrong to the video gaming industry. If anything, they are doing the most correct (why else is everyone doing so much to intergrate their work?) over the past decade. This petty stuff needs to stop.

Most basis of textures? You may be doing what most people do and are trying to compare design preference. I'm pointing out the raw technical performance.
Those textures are HD. Whehter they are basic or not, they still take a lot of resources to produce and then, they are varied. The ones in GOW3 are remapped many times. There isn't a lot of variation.
Whether they are blocky or not is also a matter of design. The polygon details is still very high. The windows aren't flat and drawn on like in most PS3/360 games. They all stick out from the building beause they use real geometry. Every single one of them. The same with the things on the roof. It may not be the most complex artistic looking design, but that takes some polygon pushing power to do that to "every" building with so many variations in size and shape.

Soooo, why the laughter? I think the guy made some excellent points, specifically what he says about Durango and Orbis.
Epic has already expressed their disappointment regarding the specs of Microsoft and Sony's upcoming consoles relative to their expectations, and have made it clear that the graphic enthusiasts that want top tier power next gen are going to have to stick with high-end PCs.

"Those textures are HD" Simply calling a texture HD does not make it impressive, block colours in files size and virtually non-existant regardless of whether the texure size is 480p or 1080p. Its a block colour, there is no information in it. Its therefore not demanding for the ram. As for the building tehy are simple squares, they are not composed of a lot of polygons. they will never be as demanding as organic shapes. Naturally the art choice means the models alone are not demanding so more effort can go into the the amount thats going on screen at any one time or displacement mapping. Not trying to dismiss the visuals of this game, I just think you give it unfair praise over many current gen games.
Heres a better comparison. (spoiler if you havn't played uncharted 3)

Im guessing what he is trying to say is the fact the the Wii U will most definitely be weaker than the Durango and PS4. And that we all should hope that the Wii U would be able to surpass the 7 year old xbox 360 and the 6 year old PS3. The real question becomes will Sony and Microsoft attempt to make there consoles powerhouses or just have modest upgrades over the current gen?
@Oniyide Yes because Mario and Pikmin are graphical powerhouses lol. You sure are obsessed with Ninty threads.

That's not how textures sizes/resolution are referenced. Texture resolution is independant of the screen display resolution. The Wii U is actually capable of 8192 x 8192 texture resolution. I'm not suggesting that is what P-100 is using but you can't equate a texture resolution to the screen resolution.
The rEVOLution is not being televised

Yeah but does Uncharted 3 have a guy with a cape in it? Obviously P-100 does.
