BTW late September [Japan] will see a bunch of Vita game releases --

9/20 - Little Big Planet Vita (MSRP 3,990 yen)
9/27 - Ys Celceta (reg and LE)
DJ Max Technika Tune (reg and LE)
Earth Defense Force 3 Portable (reg and double pack)
Nobunaga's Ambition
Danboru Senki

I predict 100k sales - combined!

Want to make a bet?

Of course not. Why should I bet on predictions I made joking around!

Take of LBX2 and you have a deal, though! I didn't recognized it at first.

Don't forget you also implied lifetime sales with your post as the original made no mention of FW sales.

Horrible for mainline DQ, it probably won't cross 600k.

It's beating FFXI, which is really the only comparison that can possibly be made here.

Plus SE had to double server capacity, so it's clearly performing past expectations.

And know you that i was alerted to this post because someone reported it. It's not actionable in my opinion, but be wary.

aside from laughing at the banter up to here...

...didn't monster hunter have a subscription in japan?  not quite an MMO but same basic idea and from a popular franchise.  that might be comparable.  how did that do?

Was this an attempt to spin DQX into a flop?  If so, so you killed your own comparison.

Not everyone is out to get Nintendo.

MH did come to my mind because I faintly remember it having a subscirption for Japan, so you could possibly compare if you had access to the number of subscribers. Can't do a straight one as you can still play MH3 without fee and single player.

You and my implyings... no I didn't. In the the rest of the post I even talk about FW for Soul Hackers. Sorry if you misunderstood, or sorry if I really implyed something without knowing, not my intention.

You're right, not everybody is - but he clearly was.

Anyways, Monster Hunter can be played and enjoyed without ever going online ever.  DQX cannot.  Even if it has multiplayer subscriptions, gamers will not stay on an MH for long because Capcom doesn't add new content - they just release standalone updates (G versions).  Even still beyond multiplayer subscriptions, MH is NOT an MMO even in the slightest.  So it's not a valid comparison.

What do you guys think about marios second Week? 210k... 600k al togather...

Pretty weak, considering that last week the excuse was "it is only 2 days".

Even with 200k DLs in FW it's weak compared to its brethren. Still very strong regardless, but in the scale of NSMB it's low... There is a reason for everything.

So I guess we're going with the 420k figure being correct then?

Regardless, it sounds about right from what I was reading in the COMG thread. I don't know why anyone would call it a failure, for an mmo it seems pretty good.

Now, the choice to make it an mmo on the other hand...

Business-wise or in terms of entertainment value?

Entertainment value, but also naming it I guess.  I still think it was an odd and silly decision to make a main-numbered Final Fantasy game an MMO, and I feel the same way about this.

I guess (again from a business perspective) I understand why they did it.  Main numbered series, more people are likely to buy it, therefore more people are likely to get hooked and continue subscribing.  But idk.  I'm sure "Final Fantasy Online" and "Dragon Quest Online" would still have pulled respectable numbers.

I don't know.... why would NSMB2 flop like this though?  I feel like digital sales would explain it.

NSMB2 is not a flop. It is above 600k in just two weeks. Many games would kill to do half of that.

Anyway. The coin collecting focus seems more like a spinoff than a "mainline" one. Also, I remember not everyone was happy with the first DS game.

It does seem like it at first I guess... but it really does seem fun, which is all that really matters to most people.
