NSMB2 is not a flop. It is above 600k in just two weeks. Many games would kill to do half of that.

Anyway. The coin collecting focus seems more like a spinoff than a "mainline" one. Also, I remember not everyone was happy with the first DS game.

It does seem like it at first I guess... but it really does seem fun, which is all that really matters to most people.
