Forums - Sales - Media Create & Famitsu Japan Sales: Week 31, 2012 (Jul 30 - Aug 05)

The DQX were in-line with my predictions, but I'm surprised by the Wii numbers! It could be above the 360 this week WW!

Crazy. But DQX will be interesting for WiiU, if it launches with it (which it won't)...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

FFIX is over ten years old guys. It was the first MMO on consoles and a PC version was already announced.

And MMOs weren't quite as popular back then.

They really can't be compared.

First MMO on consoles? Nope.avi.

That's what wikipedia says. They do mention Phantasy Star Online happened first but it wasn't open-world so it's essentially not a real MMO.

So to be a Massively Multiplayer Online game, it needs to be Open World? Sorry, but i dont think so.

That's what wikipedia says lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_massively_multiplayer_online_games

"In November 2002, Final Fantasy XI by Square-Enix became the first MMOG to provide clients for different platforms using a single set of servers,[23] in addition to being the first 'true' MMOG to appear on a video game console due to its initial release in Japan in May of the same year on the PlayStation 2.

And besides since PSO was on the Dreamcast it can be forgotten lol

On the Dreamcast, PC, Gamecube and Xbox, with cross-platform. But yeah, the 'false' MMOG can be forgotten, cuz ya know, its only Massively Multiplayer Online if it is Open World. Totally makes sense.

Im done here.

PC is a console?

PSO came out on the Gamecube and Xbox before FFXI?

Nope.

And besides PSO isn't even considered a MMO by most. It is more an online action RPG. Because it certainly wasn't massive. That's why FFXI is essentially the first real MMO on consoles.

Sorry but four players is Massively Multiplayer Online? lol

I think the Wii HW boost is the most interesting figure besides the DQX FW sales.

In essence what this means is that the market for the Wii still has space to grow, mainly for specific series where fans would buy the console just for the game.

Boo for NSMB2. I doubt that the download numbers are significant (probably sub-100k up until now), so this isn't a good start for the game. What's more important are the sales in the long run though (both of the game and the 3DS hardware), so if this beast can stay above 10k units in weekly sales for a long time and raises the 3DS baseline a bit, it's still all good, because Japan already has a steady flow of appealing software.

The game's performance in the Western markets will be much more important, but if it's not doing hot in Japan, then people shouldn't expect too much for America and Europe (i.e. not an immediate turnaround from poor 3DS sales to great ones).

Sadly, true. Digital sales won't be as big as people wants to believe, so maybe it is at 680-700k right now. In western markets I'm expecting a ok performance.

I don't know.... why would NSMB2 flop like this though?  I feel like digital sales would explain it.

Right. PSO's brand of online is more in line with Monster Hunter (which perhaps is why i ended up loving Monster Hunter, because i fricking loved PSO for GC in its time), and so i wouldn't count it as an MMO. PSU, on the other hand, yes.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

It did crash Nintendo's servers, supposedly, so unless Nintendo had drastically poor server capacity (which i'll admit there is half a chance of, this being Nintendo and all), something good had to come there.

Woop, nice week for nintendo. I guess some people will always find their way...eventhough we all know them and we know what they are capable of.....

I wonder how much will DQ in Wii U sell.... Better than the Wii version?

Where are the downloads numbers for mario?

The worst selling DQ in Japan sold near 1M in Week 1...  and DQVI is a remake for DS... the main line always sold over 2 million  (yeap... over FF).

So DQX sold like a crap... that's coming from a DQ fan (more than FF).

They are comparing to other MMO's as that is what it is.
