Forums - Sales - Media Create & Famitsu Japan Sales: Week 31, 2012 (Jul 30 - Aug 05)

@ethomaz. Thanks.

Anyways, I did a query on Garaph to get them automagically, here were the results

WeekTrackerGameIDRankSalesWeekly
2006-05-22 Famitsu 241: NSMB DS 1 865024
2006-09-25 Famitsu 261: Pokemon DP 1 1586360
2009-11-30 Famitsu 3803: NSMB Wii 1 936734
2012-07-23 Famitsu 5603: NSMB 2 1 430185

I kind of tricked the query tool by using the group by operator to get the first item, did I do it right?

select * from SoftwareWeekly

where GameID in (241,3803,5603,261)

Japan is so big for handhelds and JRPGs.

Damn such a strange market but i guess its about tastes.

Long Live Japan!

Mr Khan
obviously the words by itself arent
but the way he posted...his intention was flaming imo

It was you? There should be some penalty for reporting that dont make sense,  this is seriously ridicilous dude. The numbers are low for a main series, but since people here represented FF11 numbers, it actually did good, but then again. Who says itll have the same following as FF11 that still generates income 10 years later? Also, I dug in some numbers for FF14, it shipped more than 600k back in 2010. We have to wait people's reactions.

DID FFXIV release in Japan on PS3?

Delayed to 2013 due the desastrous PC launch.

I thought v2 came out in holiday 2012?

FFIX is over ten years old guys. It was the first MMO on consoles and a PC version was already announced.

And MMOs weren't quite as popular back then.

They really can't be compared.

First MMO on consoles? Nope.avi.

That's what wikipedia says. They do mention Phantasy Star Online happened first but it wasn't open-world so it's essentially not a real MMO.

So to be a Massively Multiplayer Online game, it needs to be Open World? Sorry, but i dont think so.

That's what wikipedia says lol

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_massively_multiplayer_online_games

"In November 2002, Final Fantasy XI by Square-Enix became the first MMOG to provide clients for different platforms using a single set of servers,[23] in addition to being the first 'true' MMOG to appear on a video game console due to its initial release in Japan in May of the same year on the PlayStation 2.

And besides since PSO was on the Dreamcast it can be forgotten lol

Closed beta in November/December 2012 and release in January 2013.

The 2.0 for PC is set to October 2012.

On the Dreamcast, PC, Gamecube and Xbox, with cross-platform. But yeah, the 'false' MMOG can be forgotten, cuz ya know, its only Massively Multiplayer Online if it is Open World. Totally makes sense.

Im done here.

Lovely Wii numbers, I did expect 35K to 40K, also 3DS is about to cross the 7M mark :)

Boo for NSMB2. I doubt that the download numbers are significant (probably sub-100k up until now), so this isn't a good start for the game. What's more important are the sales in the long run though (both of the game and the 3DS hardware), so if this beast can stay above 10k units in weekly sales for a long time and raises the 3DS baseline a bit, it's still all good, because Japan already has a steady flow of appealing software.

The game's performance in the Western markets will be much more important, but if it's not doing hot in Japan, then people shouldn't expect too much for America and Europe (i.e. not an immediate turnaround from poor 3DS sales to great ones).

Sadly, true. Digital sales won't be as big as people wants to believe, so maybe it is at 680-700k right now. In western markets I'm expecting a ok performance.

Listen guys.

You can't compare Dragon Quest X to previous Dragon Quest entries because they aren't MMOs.

And you can't compare Dragon Quest X to other MMOs because they aren't Dragon Quest.

It's as simple as that.

DQX is kind of a first at what it's doing. And as far as I can tell, those sales are definitely at least a good start for the game.

This. This. This.

The only thing we can do is wait for SE to share expectations and results.
