I read a full article on this on Gamasutra I believe, but I don't understand why Gabe says that.

He literally doesn't give a reason.

He does state why, I read this one at BBC news, it says it's mainly because of the UI and because of the Windows Store. He fears that if Microsoft chooses a closed plattform, it would be a threat to Steam. If Microsoft actually does that, I don't see how that wouldn't be less of a 'Catastrophe' for Valve.

Oh god that does sound like a catastrophe. Not just for Valve, but for all consumers who currently value the open system of Windows.

The Gabe Newell is just talking about the Close Plataform again... he did the same with Steam on 360 and PS3 (after that Sony changed to open everything to Steam), etc.

Gabe Newell wants to be in the control of the Steam service... not Microsoft, Sony or other company.

He is right.

So Gabe hows Half Life 3 going? :P

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Looks like they're finally starting work on the title screen, as can be seen on the PC behind him. :P

The OP doesn't give all the details. The BBC website posted above does a much better job of explaining his viewpoint; closed systems are bad.

It's a fair point too. Microsoft have seen the success of Apple's closed system and enjoyed the success of X-box Live and are now planning on migrating to a similar level of control by integrating the PC with an interface & system designed for phones and tablets. This also means they can introduce their market system which will essentially introduce a royalty fee with MS taking a 30% margin from software/app developers. So some devs may find this a struggle.

Windows 8 definitely has the potential to ruin the freedom of the current PC space.

It's a lose/lose for Valve.

Either it is successful and the Microsoft universal app store takes off or it is unsuccessful and their userbase could decline.

I find myself wondering if Microsoft will allow Steam at all on Windows RT.

Probably not if the browser is anything to go by.

Tease.

I have to disagree with that because:

Windows 3.1 -> Good
Windows 95 -> Revolutionary
Windows 98 -> Bad
Windows NT -> Good
Windows ME -> Steaming Pile of shit
Windows 2000 -> Good
Windows XP -> Good
Windows Vista -> Steaming Pile of shit
Windows 2008 -> Good
Windows 7 -> Good

Well, history shows that he is likely right, every other Windows is shit and every other is brilliant. According to this cycle, which is one of the most predictable in the galaxy, Windows 8 will indeed be a catastrophe.
iBlah's picture is correct in my opinion.

My god, it's like the Star Trek movies.

Except Generations. That movie was awesome.

@ OP 8 is trash. Wouldn't even install on my fucking computer. I don't want some shitty OS were Microsoft gets to dictate whatever just because they made it.

Even with your pattern, we're still heading for a steaming pile of shit though.
