And linux isn't a catastrophe?
How many years has linux supposed to emerge and become a real contender?

So basically he's going to come out at next E3 and eat some crow?
It's just that simple.
Linux isn't ready for the desktop. Even Ubuntu 12.04 requires you to know a lot about a computer in order to set up. I'm glad Valve are porting it but it can't replace Windows unless MS screws up a lot more than they've ever done.
iOS and Android's success prove people are (unfortunately) willing to accept closed systems. It might be Gabe's priority but it isn't customers'. (I just bought an Android phone, and swapped it for iOS when I found out how locked up it actually was)

LOL, this!
But it's the smallest problem, MS wants to close the SW market in the portable version and the HW in the PC version. Definitely a NEVER BUY for me. If I can't run every OS and every SW I want on my PC just because there's also Wincrap 8 installed on it, I simply won't buy Wincrap 8. I can imagine that for Gabe, that runs an independent marketplace, this is an even greater problem than for me and other common users.

OT: Steam runs on OSX, will Mac become the gaming pc of next gen? Trolololol!
He doesn't give a reason, but I'm pretty sure he's opposed to the app store, both because it will be a competitor to Steam and because it's generally a pretty bad idea.
He could change his mind, like he did with the PS3. I wonder if Microsoft has a VP of sharpening things.
| Squilliam said: It's a lose/lose for Valve. Either it is successful and the Microsoft universal app store takes off or it is unsuccessful and their userbase could decline. |
It's a catappstrophe.
I don't agree. If the app store is bad, and as a result windows 8 is bad, people will stay on Windows 7 like they stayed on XP after vista came out. Windows 7 runs steam just fine, and even if Apple and Linux gain market share, steam is available on both.
And even if the Microsoft app store takes off, it's a very different business from steam. So, it's really a win win for Valve.
Also something about kantie panties.

Even with your pattern, we're still heading for a steaming pile of shit though. |
There really is no pattern ...
I don't think Window's 8 will work out all that well because, from what I have seen, most of Microsoft's mistakes have come from trying to make their OS too flashy or too user friendly.
Is Window's 8 a codename for Gabe's appearance?
I should borrow one of his knives to cut some bacon off his back.

Actually, this list doesn't mention Windows 2000.
For those who don't remember. People actually hated Windows XP early on. Because it had very high requirements (for the time) and was basically the same as Windows 2000.
Windows Vista wasn't so bad either. If you actually had a machine designed for Vista and a dual core processor. I'm guessing most people didn't have dual core processors when Vista launched and that was part of the problem.
