The OP doesn't give all the details. The BBC website posted above does a much better job of explaining his viewpoint; closed systems are bad.

It's a fair point too. Microsoft have seen the success of Apple's closed system and enjoyed the success of X-box Live and are now planning on migrating to a similar level of control by integrating the PC with an interface & system designed for phones and tablets. This also means they can introduce their market system which will essentially introduce a royalty fee with MS taking a 30% margin from software/app developers. So some devs may find this a struggle.

Windows 8 definitely has the potential to ruin the freedom of the current PC space.
