While we're on the subject of what may or may not have happened, let me ask this: Was Total Recall all a dream?
Clearly he used a surfboard to jump out and ride the shockwave back to shore... there is even footage of that:

I don't think that film is out in the UK yet...saw an ad for it today saying 'coming soon'...

But that's Adam West. He can do ANYTHING, no questions asked.

chick with 3 boobs, shot the wife in the head, hooked up with a hot prostitute, all signs point to a dream.
as for your comment on Alfred's reaction at the end, I think some part of Alfred knew Batman did not die, after all he knows Batman better than anyone, so he should at least suspect there was an exit plan.
the final scene was basically his fantasy coming true, Bruce living a peaceful life with a woman by his side, maybe he did not want to disturb such perfection, he simply observed it and enjoyed the scenery he always dreamed of.

I'm thinking of the old Arnold Schwarzenegger version from 1991. He goes to a place to have memories implanted in his head and they ask him what he prefers. At the end of the movie, I sat up and said, "HEY! DIDN't MOST OF THE STUFF HE ASKED FOR....."

Ah yeah, I remember that!
I think the signs pointed to all that being a dream actually, but it was left to interpretation. I hate it when films do that!
So...it's the same as the new film, right? I'd imagine so...

People seriously. Batman does not leave the plane, he drops the bomb.
That explains why he is in the Bat with 5 seconds left, it's far more practical to drop the bomb then to jump in the water, like what the hell people.
With the bat's speed ( he got far from the city within seconds), he probably could survive.

But did Alfred ever say which cafe in Paris? And how would you react if somebody apparently died and suddenly, you saw them at your favorite restaurant? If I went to McDonald's and saw Tupac there, I'd be like "HOLY FUCK! I THOUGHT YOU WERE DEAD!!" I wouldn't just take a sip of my coke and nod my head. I'd also quit smoking marijuana because, apparently, I was really fucked up. I think the ending really is open for interpretation and there is no wrong answer. It's just as easy for me to come up with a scenario where Batman lived as it is for me to come up with one where he is dead. Luckily, I subscribe to the #1 rule of comic books: "If there is no body, then there is no death" |
Alfred tracked the location of the "necklace" which Hathaway is wearing in that scene at the end. Remember they had a trace on the necklace...that's how he ended up at that cafe (and also as he's been there before so he could've been goin there anyway)
Anyway Alfred has no motivation to imagine Bruce sitting with Selina Kyle
There is no "open" ending, the only correct answer is that he is alive.
This is no inception, I agree with pokeclaudel.
