Alfred tracked the location of the "necklace" which Hathaway is wearing in that scene at the end.

hmm that actually makes a lot more sense than the random stuff I came up with, didn't notice the necklace though, probably beacuse I've only wathced it once so far.

Not to mention the people who gave "blake/Robin" his bag bruce had left for him say that....

"there is an item missing"

& then the man says a dialogue which has the word pearls in it...

That necklace is made of pearls.

So yeah, if Nolan hadn't directed the movie no-one would be saying it might be Alfreds dream.

It's clear as day it's real lol.

Edit: but you part about alfres nodding could make sense...he might think HE is imagining Bruce being there...he might think it's too good to be true.

Either way I doubt the nod would be it...they would actually speak etc. The movie just didn't need to show that!

People seriously. Batman does not leave the plane, he drops the bomb.

That explains why he is in the Bat with 5 seconds left, it's far more practical to drop the bomb then to jump in the water, like what the hell people.

With the bat's speed ( he got far from the city within seconds), he probably could survive.

Yea, that probably makes more sense than anything else. He just dropped it and and put his batchopper into turbo overdrive/fly and gtfo.

Alfred tracked the location of the "necklace" which Hathaway is wearing in that scene at the end. Remember they had a trace on the necklace...that's how he ended up at that cafe (and also as he's been there before so he could've been goin there anyway)

Anyway Alfred has no motivation to imagine Bruce sitting with Selina Kyle

There is no "open" ending, the only correct answer is that he is alive.

This is no inception, I agree with pokeclaudel.

Well, Bruce Wayne was up in his room spanking his monkey for eight years and Alfred wanted him to be happy.  The only two women he'd been around since leaving his room were Miranda Tate (aka the assassin leader that stabbed him) and Selina Kyle (aka the sexy thief that Alfred saw Batman looking at on Google and Bruce Wayne talked about a lot).  He had to imagine him being with a woman he actually met and since Miranda was dead, who else could he imagine Bruce Wayne with?

And Alfred didn't have a Batcave to track the necklace with.  And I'll have to watch it again but maybe Selina stole the necklace.

There is no correct answer and the ending is open!

But wouldn't the bomb being dropped in water cause a tsunami or something?

Killing more people?

You take your logic elsewhere, buddy.  We don't need your kind around here!

So he would imagine Bruce with a "thief"...he could've imagined any random womans back, no face needed lol. I don't think only a batcave would be needed to track the necklace, a tracker isn't very complicated.

What about the Bat Signal being repaired on Gordons roof & the autopilot being patched in with it having "Bruce Waynes" signature.

They were ways Bruce told the people he cared that knew he was Batman that he was alive.

He is alive, the ending is not open!

The dude would cause a tsunami to happen that would wipe out Gotham anyway with his logic!

hmm, one of us has failed English, I thinkt it's me. I didn't mean that Alfred was dreaming, my post was replied to d21's comment about how calm and unsuprised Alfred acted when he saw Bruce, what I was trying to say is that he always dreamed of this moment and when he finally saw it, he did not want to ruin it by running at them and screaming "OMG U ALIVE".

anyways I think we can agree the ending does not not make sense.

I don't know if you saw Catwoman's ass but since I saw that movie, even I imagine my GF as Selina Kyle when I see her from the back.  And the bat-signal was repaired due to nanobots.  The autopilot was repaired six months ago.  I'm sure Bruce did a lot of things before he died.

Look, you're just resorting to these far fetched reasons why Batman had to survive that explosion.  It's obvious that the only way we can solve this disagreement is with a poll.
