They won't even if 3DS dies the worst way. How can you play Mario without good controls?

What this says to me is that jerks that wish Nintendo to fail even have to admit that their games are worth playing.

really? i've always felt like microsoft is first in line to become a 3rd party dev for several reasons but mainly because of their lack of pressence in Japan, sony is a worldwide successful company.
i do agree that nintendo has enough franchises to survive on their own, they just need to structure themselves to pump out those games quicker

Nintendo has enough money to have a few real failing systems first.
3DS is profitable again this year and more than likely WiiU will be profitable day one.
I'd say they are no where near becoming a software only company or even remotely going that direction.

Microsoft doesn't have enough first party games to be a successful third party dev, they are dependent on 3rd parties. The PS3 may be selling well, but Sony itself has been struggling and has been losing money for many years.

Yeah but the Wii U two-screen concept was thought up in 2008, before tablets were really a thing.
Nintedo as a third party would be a MAJOR force that could shake other third party company to their core... even if nintendo would go third party, they would most likely keep their home and portable console (just look at the number.) If they would let go of their console they would have done it on the nin 64 era or even gc era, but with their current numbers they would still be on the console market for at least the next 2 generations (couting the 3ds and wii u.)
PS
I didnt read the whole interview... im lazy

Still too early to say..... Nintendo seems to be only company who can make its console survive with its own IPs. I think this may happen someday, but at least for onde decade Nintendo will keep making consoles. Even if WiiU doesn't sell well, they still make the best handhelds. If Nintendo someday will turn into a software company, they would first stop making home consoles first, but if someday Nintendo do that, then we can be sure that the videogame market is failing as a whole
I don't think people fully appreciate how poorly Nintendo's games would play on smartphones and tablets. How do you play a platformer or action adventure game that requires precise analog and button control with a touch screen?
I think the most we can ever expect them to do in this area is partner with HTC or Apple and make a smartphone/tablet device with analog sticks and buttons.

There's no doubt they could fall but it would have to be one hell of a fall for Nintendo to go third party considering the money they've got in the bank. |
They didn't fell enough for you last year?
Nintendo cash reserves fell from $10bn to $5.9bn in the 12 months to March 2012, that needs to slow down dramatically.
