If Nintendo went 3rd party there will still be plenty of Nintendo are doomed articles.

Nintendo will be fine. If any console maker will go third party, it will be Sony. Nintendo consoles can survive on first party alone, unlike it's competitors. Never underestimate Nintendo.

really? i've always felt like microsoft is first in line to become a 3rd party dev for several reasons but mainly because of their lack of pressence in Japan, sony is a worldwide successful company.

i do agree that nintendo has enough franchises to survive on their own, they just need to structure themselves to pump out those games quicker

Microsoft doesn't have enough first party games to be a successful third party dev, they are dependent on 3rd parties. The PS3 may be selling well, but Sony itself has been struggling and has been losing money for many years.

Huge companies don't go down that easily. Sony still has billions on their warchest and their gaming division is pretty profitable as far as the whole company go.

Actually the same goes for Nintendo, really, with the difference they rely more on their gaming business.

Part of me would enjoy this simply because playing all the games I own on one system would be much easier than having two.

That said, I don't want Nintendo to fail. And I don't think they will. 3DS will have momentum, Wii-U will make a profit no matter how well it sells. Like other people have mentioned, they can live on their first parties alone (and have done in the past). With the third-party support I'm sure it's not going to be a problem.

nooo

that would mean no more innovation!

Sony/MS would have nothing to copy = game industry sinks and shifts even more to tablets!!

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Absolutely, and people need to realize that Nintendo is the only console manufacturer that sells its consoles at a profit at launch.  As well, Nintendo ONLY does console gaming as a business.  Sony and Microsoft not only launch consoles at a loss, but their ability to stay above ground as a business depends on all of the other markets they belong to.  Out of the big 3, Nintendo easily has the best chance of surviving as a console manufacturer.

didn't Nintendo state in a documentary ten years ago , that if they put out of making video game systems, they would not go 3rd party and go back to making toys and board games.

If Nintendo goes third party won't they make less money? If we assume they sell the same amount of software on rival consoles, their returns per sale will be lower since the console isn't their own. I really only see them becoming 3rd party if consoles die altogether.

I'm probably wrong on this though :P

...a future that is probably coming pretty soon.  apple/android is fucking (sorry, disrupting) the industry up something fierce.

It's funny that no one is saying the same of SCE, a company that has much more possibilities of going third party, due to economical reasons.

In today's game industry, Nintendo's always in danger of failing, no matter what they do.

There's no doubt they could fall but it would have to be one hell of a fall for Nintendo to go third party considering the money they've got in the bank.

They didn't fell enough for you last year?

Nintendo cash reserves fell from $10bn to $5.9bn in the 12 months to March 2012, that needs to slow down dramatically.

Check the nintendo financial's thread.

wtf?!?  is that mostly from the new facilities they built?  can't possibly be from 3DS losses, they weren't that big.

Absolutely no chance in the next 10-15 years, but, as it's a 3rd party, they should be scared. 3rd party games don't sell on Nintendo systems apparantly, so what would happen if Nintendo goes to all systems? 3rd parties would have no chance.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

Honestly third party should fear the day Nintendo becomes third party....

Haha, true.

But a lot of have probably seen what I have said about this already. I'm not going to say anything else other than:

EA; please don't try to predict Nintendo's future.
