Forums - Nintendo - Is New Super Mario Bros. U a Wii U launch title or not? Will that be bad news for the Wii U?

Pikmin 3 isnt coming out at launch i dont think

Regardless, Nintendo Land + Assassin's Creed 3 + Rayman + ZombiU are four pretty big titles. Then you might have Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 possibly in the mix too.

Give these games some room to breathe, Mario can wait a few weeks.

If this is what Nintendo's thinking it's smart. Give the third parties who have invested in the Wii U early a bit of a break.

As long as it's not like months without content like the 3DS was, that's fine. Some Nintendo fans have too much of a tunnel vision when it comes to the types of games they'll buy, this way they'll be forced to probably take a look at some 3rd party games unless they want to play nothing but Nintendo Land for 2 or 3 weeks.

hold it.... it will fizzle out the excitement for nintendoland and the new super mario bros.2 in 3ds...

I think launching a console on Black Friday week is stupid anyway, because you have Black Friday shoppers + early adopters (line-up people) trying to buy the same console at once.

You launch early in November, then you get one wave of shoppers (early adopters), then you can have restock of inventory in time for Black Friday (which is Nov. 30th this year).

Then you get a second wave a big sales on Black Friday.

So that would be an ideal scenario for Nintendo, launch in early November, let games like Black Ops 2, AC3, Rayman, and Zombi U soak up sales, then for Black Friday week you bring out NSMB U.

Honestly they could hold off Mario until December really if they wanted to, but I think Black Friday week is probably the smartest window to launch it.

Well the Wii didn't have a Mario platformer for an entire year after launch, and the Wii was Nintendo's most successful console ever. So what does that say about the "Must have a Mario at launch" theory?

The Wii had Wii Sports which made all the casuals and kids go crazy for the system, in this case the Wii U have NintendoLand, but unlike Wii Sports that game doesn't really appeal that much to the casuals.

OP: Depending on how long the game it's from the launch date, if it's just a couple of weeks I think it's not really a big deal, of course it will be better if it was at launch.

I was in line at Target overnight on launch day for the Wii.  40+ people.  Sleeping bags, tents... we were all there for Twilight Princess.  Wii Sports only has appeal to the impulse buyer who walks by the video game aisle with their cart and says "Oh this is that thing I heard about where you swing your arms",  "Let's get it for the kids".

I'd imagine, as others have said, it'll be there day 1.

Never saw the hate for Nintendo's conference. It did what people wanted, but it wasn't enough???

i sincerly doubt it... or at least it would be a bad move imo.  there will be plenty of people that rush out to buy a wii U day one just because it is avaible.  save NSMB for black friday and make two big splashes instead of one.  ..i mean, a day 1 mario won't do much to push hardware on a day it is likely to sell out anyways.  nintendoland will be the big day1 purchase nintendo pushes imo.

I think by now even the hardcore Nintendo fans are getting sick of NSMB. Bring on the 3D!

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Its funny hearing Nintendoland won't be a system seller when we have no clue what the other games are lol. We have seen Animal Crossing, Luigi Mansion, Zelda, Donkey Kong, and what Captain Falcon? They have like 7 others to reveal correct? Those 7 could be huge for all we know. Could be a Mario game in it. The point is the don't need NSMBU day one. Late December could be a good release keeping momentum until Wii Fit U releases early next year. Its release window is 4 months correct? That would suggest a late November release like the Wii and December through March as the window, the end of their fiscal year. NSMBU will be mid December and Wii Fit U will be January or February. They could pitch Wii Fit U as an New Years resolution or valentines gift for the wife.

Bump

The real issue is that this game won't even be the best platformer available on the WII U at launch.
