Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: next gen is about “improving gaming experience” “wonderful graphics won’t help”

Nintendo has a point but it doesn't excuse their excessive cheapness to the point of absurdity.

cheapness is a two sided coin. Many people are not prepared to pay $350 let alone $450 for a Nintendo console. Theykind of tired with the 3DS, but it was selling shit, so they had to sell it at a loss.

I personally wish Nintendo wasn't being cheap but until gamers are prepared to spend the kind of money people are on mobile phones and tablets, this won't change.

People will pay for a good experience. Sometimes Nintendo seems to spend so much time making things cheap and simple they forget more elegant solutions. Sometimes products are good simply because they are high quality and capable. If they can make a convincing case for people to spend the money then they'll spend the money.

Tease.

Misleading title. Iwata actually says that improved graphics WILL help coupled with richer gameplay experiences. More power doesn't just mean better graphics, it also means bigger worlds, smarter AI , more enemies on screen, better Gameplay mechanics etc. So yes a more poweful system will equal to better games if that power is used correctly. #Just Saying

i personally wouldnt call 3d a graphics improvment, as someone has said before, some games actually take a hit in resolution with the 3d on. THere are some games i would argue that make it look a bit worst, Nintendogs comes to mind.

However, 3D gives you a different perspective on the game while playing, and the resolution isn't really that bad while it is less noticible with a smaller screen.  The resolution could be better, but like I said the 3D is a form of graphics improvement.  Resolution isn't everything in graphics, but some people tend to care more about certain parts than others.  The games where it makes it look "worse" are examples of games that either aren't suited very well for 3D or didn't implement it very well.

All I know is that casuals kept Nintendo alive with the Wii.

WiiU looks like its alienating that exact crowd that brought them back from the brink. That just leaves real gamers.......people who like graphics along with great gameplay.

I dont see this going to end well.

Alive? How can you say alive when Nintendo had the best generation in financial terms by a huge mile? I'm sure that they are really glad of the development of this generation.

Ok. Alive and well.

Point was casuals are directly responsible for Wiis success.

WiiU isnt as easy to grasp to casuals and therefore wont be getting their help next gen.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I think you vastly underestimate those that you call "casuals" (that's a stupid term, but I won't get into that in this thread). The "casuals" were remarkably specific about which games on the Wii they wanted, and they consistently avoided games that were actually bad. The only reason why enthusiasts on internet forums talk down about "casuals" is that "casuals" don't like the same sorts of games that the enthusiasts do.

The Wii U is not difficult to grasp. These same people are used to using tablets, and the tablet part of the controller is going to be the primary input of the Upad for games that such people will buy (where the Wiimote isn't). Look, for instance, at Just Dance 4, which adds a Upad usage that is rather easy to grasp. Game & Wario, also, is rather easy to understand.

It's easy to forget that the Wii U will support Wiimotes extensively, and that there will be many games for which the Upad is just another display. It will not be difficult to get the support of the expanded audience for that reason - the only challenge is convincing them that the Wii U is worth the upgrade from the Wii, and that may be a tough sell, depending on prices, games, etc.

EDIT: And by the way, the Wii's attach ratio is very similar to the PS3's attach ratio. So either the enthusiast Wii gamer bought a lot more games than the enthusiast PS3 gamer, or there are a lot more enthusiast Wii gamers than you give credit for.

That doesn't make any sense. Nintendo has been saying this since before they released the Wii and their stance on it has never changed even for a moment. They also stated that they do not release there specs just as they did with the Wii because that is unimportant.

They are restating the same point that they always have for the logically impared who begging the question. There is no damage to be controlled. This is how they work. Apparently some people are too blinded by fanatacism to understand that, though.

Nintendo never releases specs, for ANY of their consoles or handhelds. There are two ways that we learn the specs for their systems - developers leaking the information, and hardware gurus taking the system apart and investigating it. They only ever give the information that is relevant to either gamers or investors. That means they'll tell you the maker of the GPU (relevant to the investor), but not the power of it. And they'll tell you all of the methods of control, but they won't tell you the resolution that the gyroscope is capable of.

Why? Because it's not relevant to anybody except the developers. So they're the only ones that learn this information.

This "PR" isn't damage control, it's Nintendo explaining the same reasoning that they've always applied - if you look back at any time in the past that they've been asked for specs of a system, you'll find them using exactly the same argument for why they won't provide them - it's all about the gameplay, and gameplay trumps graphics, but the graphical quality will be more than sufficient. See, look at all the great games coming?

I think it's funny, how Mr. Iwata assumes things about the next-gen-consoles of the competition, without these things even released. Yes, it seems likely, that this time the power-gap will not that big, seeing the improvement the WiiU makes. But you never know. Sony could decide to leave console-business with releasing a new console 2015 at a price of 1000$. This could easily be as much more powerful to WiiU than PS3 was to Wii.
