You are free to disagree but facts are facts. This is my last post. I have better things to do that argue for an hour over whether a format is a gimmick.

Geez, I never said the format was a gimmick... I said the DVD movie-playback was a gimmick, in response to your "Sony is the evolution of gaming by means of multimedia".

I will read it. But understand you're reading me wrong.

EDIT: I just read the article, and I don't disagree with it. How does that make movie-playback less of a gimmick? Because it leads to social acceptance? Rather, this is perfectly in line with what I was saying. (A novelty used in order to attract appeal)

you know alot of the PS2 sucess has to do with the fact that at the time of release and even some time after that it was the cheapest DVD player out. Which DVD was a very popular format at that time, alot of people wanted one. They both did the same thing for their respective systems, had PS2 not have DVD playback it wouldnt have been as popular same thing with motion for Wii. If one is a gimmick so is the other.

What kind of logic is this? Because something is popular it is suddenly a gimmick?

fml. I must've stooped too low in the joke of a pissing contest, I think it even affected you, Oni. :(

It's not because something sells consoles that its a gimmick, otherwise Angry Birds is a gimmick, Diablo and WoW are gimmicks, Final Fantasy VII, among all FFs, is the one that is the most gimmicky of all of them because it pushed the most HW and SW.

...

The gimmickness of something is measured by an intrinsic attribute, popularity is inconsequential. Had the Wii been unpopular, would it not have been a gimmick? Very odd logic up there.

Your examples are bad, those are games. Games cant be gimmicks. Why is DVD a gimmick and not motion controls. I would put motion control in the that category. Simple because it didnt add much to gaming. There are very few types of games that benefited from its use. IMHO. It might not be as much of a gimmick as DVD playback.

I never said the DVD format was a gimmick, and if I did it was me not being clear. What I did say though is that DVD-playback is a gimmick, which is alot of what S.T.A.G.E. was pushing and I wanted to fight him on that front.

Put it this way, both the Vita and the 3DS use catridges today, and the future is going digital. The DVD format is just that, a format. I won't say its a gimmick, but compared to motion controls which will be in gaming forever, even as we get closer to virtual reality, are here to stay.

To call them a gimmick is horrible lack of foresight and understanding of the potential of what is only the beginning for this huge facet of gaming, which will one day probably be the predominant form of control even in advanced gaming setups.

Enough about the future. If something is used in few cases in gaming, but in the cases it's used it brings a lot of value to the experience, then I don't consider that not adding much to gaming.

For my previous post, my examples are horrible I agree, because the logic I based them on was wack.

Strange how the good ol' "Nintendo vs Sony"argument found it's way to a Skyward Sword thread.

Back to the game, It was a day one purchase to me and I have played it over 120 hours, so I'd like to believe I know a thing or two about the game AND the series considering I have played and finished every Zelda game released on a Nintendo console.

Positives.
1) The storyline was great, The best storyline in a Zelda game so far In my opinion, we finally got good cutscenes and they didnt over do it either, It was easier this time to feel attached to Zelda her being your best friend and all, also this story showed us the origin of Link and the hero of time. Props on that!

2) Controls were amazing, I absolutely loved flying the bettle with my Wii mote, rolling bombs and flying around Skyloft, never felt like a gimmick to me.

3) The puzzles were the best in the series, lets be honest, the good ol' lighting the torch to open the door and the abused concept of block moving are somewhat gone, (except for the few times when you got to push blocks) They got very clever, to me the Laynaru Mining facility was absolutely wonderful.

Now my negatives.

1) The Overworld is gone!, I for one loved traveling from one end of the world map to another being it on horseback or boat or train even flying, I loved exploring and finding easter eggs on the least expected places, Why do I have to go back to Skyloft, and then jump off my bird just to go from the Forest to the Dessert?

2) Nintendo got lazy!!! instead of making us go baclk to all 3 areas after being at the Temple of time, why could we not get NEW areas????

3)Game was SERIOUSLY TOO EASY, enemies were defeated either by proper use of controller or just going by the easy hack n slash. the Boos fights were the easiest in the series, I dont think I used more than 2 bottled potions.

Either way, I noticed how Nintendo used this game to test fan reaction on concepts they are trying to use when it comes to moving Zelda to a new direction, I hope they bring the over world map back but I guess this will make the game more "player friendly". the cutscenes, the reduced sizes in all areas, Overall Skyward Sword is a terrific game and the best Wii game to me, but definitely not the Best Zelda.

DVD and DVD playback go hand in hand. The PS2 games used DVD format so why would it not be able to play ANY DVD disc. By that logic the cameras in 3DS are a gimmick, the Ninty video is a gimmick, web browsing, Netflix, Hulu, etc.

I've finally started playing Zelda: SS so far it's good (I'm in the 2nd dungeon), I like it more than TP.

If photos are not used in games, they would be gimmicks. The Nintendo video is a gimmick, yes as much as DVD playback is.

Great, so we agree.

This whole 'what is a gimmick and what is not' debate is really just an argue of semantics. Like I said way earlier, gimmick has been used in a negative connotation only towards Nintendo. For other companies it is innovation...Pot, meet kettle.
