i remember the discussion some days ago about the german amazon price of the wii u with people speculating if this could be the price, how this would look in dollars and blabla. i just want to let you know that they cut the price to 349€ now. remember, they say the price is still not officially announced and the price could be lower at release

but i think this should at least mean they are pretty sure price won't be higher than 349€ which should be the same in dollars for americans like it is with other consoles as well.

Honestly, all this news about the price of WiiU are starting to get tiresome. First 349 followed by 299, then 399 and now again 349.

Why don't you set the price and stop this BS, Nintendo?

... Unless not even Nintendo knows which price will the WiiU have, and are following (maybe even using) all this price placeholders to decide the price.

A reasonable price would be $399-$499. Nintendo is in a very difficult position. They probably have one or two good years at most to recoup the development costs of a new console until they get trounced by PS4/X720. Everything in the WiiU is (a lot) more expensive than in a current PS3/X360, both of which currently sell in the $250 price range. So an initial price for the WiiU in the same range is utter financial suicide right from the start. Then there is the general howling from the clueless crowd that WANT a $199-$249 WiiU. Obviously it is either pleasing the crowd and losing alot (and I mean A LOT) of money, or initially sell the product for a reasonable price ($399) and recoup costs.

amazon has it on 349 now which i'm pretty sure won't be higher than because that would bring amazon some huge problems. and if the price will be 349 in euros, it will be 349 in dollars. so yeah, i am pretty sure it will never ever cost more than 349 dollars now. no clue if this is a reasonable price but i think it is ok and higher wouldn't be necessary for nintendo.

I'm with the conspiracy theory. Nintendo probably works with Amazon here and checks how many people preorder for a given price. They obviously cannot increase price (as Amazon have to cancel the preorders in this case). But they can drop the price, until the number of preorders is good enough for Nintendo.
